I'm in the market for a 2012 or later XKR convertible and I've been on this board for almost 6 months.
I've read about supercharger replacements, rebuilds, insurance, suspension repairs, and replacing the in-dash LCD with a CarPlay compatible unit.
I've also read about purchasing an XKR across the United States, which seems more likely because it seems the DC Metro area has many, many silver colors and not many others.
Are there XKR owners in Maryland, I could speak with to give a day-in-the-life of owning one of these cars. What am I really in for maintenance wise and etc? I've owned Porsches before and understand costs can be high.
I've test driven a few at dealers locally, and have run into good and bad examples.
I'm up for buying lunch or coffee for some real conversation, and learning from your experiences. I feel it might be a little, realer, have a one-on-one conversation.
Will your at the right place! You have been researching the cars faults and problems which is smart. All forums focus on the negatives which is exactly what you want to read BEFORE you purchase anything. Just remember nobody posts on a forum unless their car is having problems.
One key thing you did not mention directly? Can and will you DIY the repairs and maintenance? From what you posted about owning a Porsche I think so? This is the key to owning a used Jaguar.
Next with the age of the car your looking at all the problems have long since surfaced and people have fixed them. Usually there are several ways to fix the problems.
You might consider posting a car wanted ad on this forum. We all like to talk Jaguar's too!
What colors inside and out are you looking for?

There's a 2013 XKR in the marketplace section reduced to $29900.
Twelve years ago I bought my 2010 XKR for a bit over $30,000, so effectively eleven years off this example.
Is the market still this good, or did I score on my purchase?

You scored!
Around the same time, I paid just under $30k for my 2007 non-R (but I was picky about color, and could only find 4-5 red cars on the market in the US, and most were beat up).
I'm planning to do most routine maintenance items myself. Plugs, fluid changes, brakes, and reachable pulleys. I've done all that on the Porsches and Audis I've owned.
I've generally left internal surgery like timing belts, coil packs, and other things to shops I trusted.
I've pursued a dark blue exterior/light interior color combination for a long, long time. Here's the Kyanite Blue XKR I've had folded in my suit's breast pocket I've been walking around with.

@willmapp3 just throwing it out to you that if you're comfortable doing plugs & pulleys, there's no reason that you shouldn't be able to add timing belts and coil packs to your self-maintenance repertoire for the XKR.

Cee Jay...If you purchased your 2010 XKR 12 years ago, for $30,000, when it was approximately 4 years old, you purchased a car that sold new for $96,000 in 2010 for $66,000 under the new MSRP price in 2010. I'd say that you got a deal of a lifetime.....unless there were any stories (accidents, mechanicals, or very high mileage).

To the OP. Im,I’ve in San Diego. Look nationally, it’s worth it. I was looking for a pristine ‘15 XKR XKR ‘vert. Flew to Denver to look at one Thst was far from pristine. While I was in Denver, one got listed in Atlanta. I flew there, spent 2 days, decided it was the one. Paid a good price. Arrange to ship it home. It been a great car.
Since I’ve owned it…
- put on 6,000 miles
- 4 new tires
- 2 oil changes
- 2 MAF sensors
- 2 lower control arms, due to leaking hydrabushings
Now has, 43,000 miles. But, haven’t driven it for 2 months, because my license was suspended due to a medical condition.

Sorry, I've been on a beach in Mexico for a week...
The invoice was $115k and some change, and the miles were right at 60k. It's a CPO lease return though, so everything was gone through by Jaguar. Total out the door was right about $35k. Bought it remotely but had my brother in law check it out first, then he drove it to me for a vacation.

completely agree! I’ve only been able to find color combos I wanted by going interstate. Texas seems to have a lot of “clean” Jags and Florida. Definitely plan to spend a couple days as there will be some time consuming arrangements. Maybe even a full detail thrown in! And you should drive it around in the local area after purchase in case it has faults that the seller is willing to fix maybe under warranty etc
One thing to bear in mind is your state tax difference. When I lived in Cali I had to pay the difference between dealer tax paid in the state of purchase and CA rate which was always higher. Also re reg and plates in your home state. One drawback is unless it’s a main dealer sale it’s hard to make use of any guarantee or warranty issued by the seller!
I can’t believe the posts I read about the insane prices of used jags in Australia!
About a year ago here in South Africa I purchased a nice white xkr 2013 convertible with the factory black pack for about $25k. It had just over 53k miles and a 1yr warranty. Purchased it a few hundred miles from where I live, got a one way ticket and had the most fun driving it home! From what I’ve seen on the web UK prices are about half of what I paid but then there’s a lot with moisture corrosion issues too I guess!
