Default Slight Rattle inside.....

I have a 2009 XK (and love it) However,
has anyone else had any trouble with a slight rattle inside the cabin, just behind the driver side seatbelt harness? it sounds to me like it's either inside the panel behind where the seatbelt is or where the window meets the rubber strip. I brought it to my dealer and they said they re-fitted the panel and tightened all parts, but the noise is still there.

any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks.

I have what seems to be what you have described except it is located on the passengers side. I have only had the car for a couple of weeks so I havent had it back to the dealer yet. I can say that I was able to silence the noise buy pulling the seatbelt outward which leads me to believe it could be the belt tensioner. I will update you when I find out more.

Sorry Jay, does the panel rest up against the rear 1/4 window? Mine (though older) has a slight rubbing sound there. Slip a piece of paper between panels (and the glass if yours is in contact) to find the magical squeak. When you do, you can adhere a small felt pad in a spot or two to help. eventually, the surface will wear itself and stop making noise....maybe in a year or two

h2oboy...i did just that and it worked. thanks. (SO far)

i put a folded peice of paper between the windo and the rubber strip that rests against it and it seems to have gotten rid of it thus far.
thanks again.

If it is indeed that rubber strip and the window, a small strip of felt adhered to it may be all you need. Let us know if you find a permanent fix.

What I would have sworn was a rear interior trim panel was actually the seat track and track cover. No more noise but my car was delivered to me with its ivory interior dirty from the service technician. Amazed that they wouldnt have someone look it over first. I have never had an experience like this before.

Had a rattle in mine - sounded like the passenger door, and every time I had my wife listen for the rattle, it would disappear. So, I may have the dealership check it out. Those mystery rattles can be very elusive and it could very well be the seat.

I had the same encounter with my dealership; took mine in for scheduled service, and got it back with black shoe marks/scuffs on the bottom door frame/sill AND a scratch in the paint near the bottom of the door.

I would be embarrassed to hand over a car after servicing with that obvious neglect. I always look over my car before leaving it (the day before I had just had it detailed). Service Advisor said they would "detail" the car at my next visit and apologized - they could NOT get the black shoe scuff marks out of the tan door sill plastic. The paint has deep scratch/cut in it - told them just to leave it alone, as they will probably screw something else up. Never had this problem at the BMW or Mercedes dealership.

Wonder what kind of shoes the tech wears????

The service report says:

1. Remove and reinstall rear trim panel
2. Adjust passengers seat
3. Remove seat track trim and apply felt tabs
4. Balance all four tires

Pretty generic but at this point it seems to have corrected all the noise. I just came from a 2008 Carrera S and this car is so much more to my liking. While they are designed to target a different market, this suits my aging bones much better.

I fixed it... just a drop of household oil in between the two rubber pieces did the trick...see attached photo..

Just got my XKR back from the service department; had a mystery rattle inside the passenger door (when driving the rattle would stop if you put pressure on the upper part of the door panel).

Service department did a super job - could not even tell that they had disassembled the door. Said it was a loose part on the window mechanism.

Got the car back in excellent shape this time; no black scuff marks on the door sill and they actually did a very nice job in cleaning up the car.

All done under warranty...

jayduke, that's the area I was thinking about. Hope the oil stays on the leather to keep it from returning anytime soon.

Had the exact same problem with my 09 Portfolio. First it got better with a little piece of wax paper wedged in between the window and the rubber molding. Then it came back fixed it for a little while with some neats foot oil then it came back. Then it went away with a credit card wedged between the window and rubber... came back again. Dealer fuddled with the interior clips no good. Then the dealer had the rear glass removed and refit. It's been good for about 2 months now. They said the sealing at the factor was uneven and causing the anoying tapping noise.
