Default Software updates.

Hi All. Have my xkr booked in next Monday to check for software updates that I may have missed. I spoke to the service guy there, he said that their has been quite a few updates released over the years. I was surprised by that. I am curious to know what updates I have missed and what they can update on my xkr.
Anyone know what sort of updates are out there? What parameters do they update?
Cheers.

That sounds like the shortened version of a conversation that's in effect misled you to think there have been updates you need. That may well not be the case. Don't assume you need any changes. What problems do you have?

Not experiencing any problems. For $45 and labour thought it couldn't hurt. I was curious what parameters can be updated. Cheers

When I first got my Mongoose I was playing with the various options and was offered the updates in the attached screen shot. The service note gives more details.

There are other TSB's where the resolution is to load the firmware from the latest SDD DVD.

Interesting read. Thanks for posting. I have asked for a print out of all the updates that get loaded. Also asked for all the updates that are available to date. I can put this up on here if anyone is interested?
As I said previously, car goes in on Monday....Cheers.

That's a lot of updates. The BMW dealer set my dash on fire the last time they did a software update on it...got a new dash out of the deal but my car smelled like burnt capacitors for a month

Would there be Software Updates for a 2009 Jaguar XKR?

If so, Does anybody know of what the updates might be?

What are the costs to have a dealer install any potential updates?

Here are at least four TSB's to do with reflashing that are applicable for the 2009MY that I can find:

TSB No. - Module - Reason
JTB00155 - Powertrain - DTC P2119
JTB00139 - ECM - DTC P0491/492
JTB00268 - ECM - Hard Hot Start
JTB00232 - Bluetooth Module - Bluetooth Connectivity

These aren't service actions or recalls so only tend to get acted on if the customer has the specific issue. The modules could have been reflashed already for another reason though.

Got the XKR back. They checked for software updates, it showed the following was needed.
PCM..Powertrain Control Module.
CJB.. Central Junction Box. (Body control module)
ICM..Instrument Cluster Control Module.
TCM..Transmission Control Module.
In addition I was told not to use sport mode for 500k's whilst the transmission re calibrates.
I think for the small cost outlay, it is worth checking if your XKR has all the necessary updates.

Needed because ....? What was wrong? The standard TSB says a change is only to be done when there's a fault. What faults did you have?

Jagv8....Software updates are not there just to solve faults. They are also there to improve.
Have you ever done an update on your computer? Your virus protection? even my android phone has had an update.
My xkr came out in 2006. since then improvements have been made that a software update will improve.
As I said in a previous post, the low cost was worth paying to check if I am up to date.
Hope this clears it up.

I am referring to the TSBs. They are explicit. Yes I am very aware of things like iPhone updates and I am also aware they can be a disaster. Hardly a recommendation.

It's your car so do as you like but it is not a good idea for others to do the same without understanding the risks.

My local dealer has told me that when they do a full service they also check if all the software is up to date. Its part of the service. Not sure they would do that if there were serious risks. I assume that is why some owners, who have had a ecu tune can loose it when a service is done. I have my XKR service at an independent, so I may have missed any updates.
I used to own Ford XR6 turbo. When it went to Ford for a service they did a transmission update that had become available. It was supposed to solve potential harsh transmission shifts. I wasn't experiencing any problems but had it done as part of the service. My Triumph 955i also had updates when they became available. So I figured I would do the same with my XKR.
Of coarse if anyone wants to do as I did then do your due diligence, check with your dealer.
So far my XKR hasn't exploded or done anything unusual.

I have a very clear understanding with my dealer: NO "updates," or flashes of my ECU for any reason, until or unless I specifically understand what they will do and what they will not do, and then approve them or not, one by one.

There are updates that are meant to be done, but quite few of them, and others which can be done if a "customer concern" or fault occurs. It's all in the TSBs...
