Default Sound / Rims/ Warranty - 07 XK

Hello everyone,

Now that the 2007 XKs are returning from lease to the dealerships I, like so many others, are taking the step into ownership. My 04 XJ8 will be traded in and I'm very excited. There are 3 that I've narrowed it down to and here are several questions that I still have:

1. Obviously the premium sound system will be better, however, does anyone have feedback on the standard system? Is the standard system adequate, or will I be disappointed?

2. Some people complain that the 20" rims provide a harsh ride as compared to the 19" ones. I can't see 1" making a significant difference, but can those with 20" confirm that they are satisfied with ride quality.

3. All of the vehicles I'm looking at have approx. 40,000 km. Warranty takes it to 80,000 km or about 1 yr left. Since I still have 1 yr left and that's plenty of time to work out any issues, do people recommend I spend the additional $3.5k on the extended warranty?

Any insight is appreciated.

Steve

Don't know much about the standard soundsystem, I do love the premium one in my Portfolio.
As for Wheels Don't worry about the 20's the ride is fine with them I can't tell much of a difference in comfort between the 20's and my 18" winter tyres. There is a clear difference in handling though it's really not apples to apples on the handling side.
As for the warranty you'll probably get a good feel for the car over the next yr if it seems to be a needy one go for the extended warranty just before the factory runs out, one good trip to the dealer and it could pay for it self. (I extended the warranty on my wifes range rover 6 days later it blew a transfercase and front differential. I'm already ahead of the game and I've got 3 yrs to go.)
Good luck I traded my 05 XJR for my 09XKR and have absolutely no regrets.

I think the only time one can purchase a Jaguar Select Warranty is at time of purchase of the pre owned Jaguar. I do not think that you can elect to purchase it at any time prior to the existing warranty running out. I just disposed of my prior Jag due to the warranty running out, purchased an XJ with Jaguar Select. I think it is a good investment.

Premium is not that great either. Subwoofer is very muddy, door speakers are sloppy. And it gets worse if you have the top down in the convertible. I'm looking into replacing everything.

If there is a material price difference, I would save the money, go with the standard, and put in something decent aftermarket.

Default XK Audio

Audio is primarily in the ear of the listener. I had upgraded my 05 XK8 with a very expensive system and was never very satisfied. My 07 XK has the standard audio system and I think it is far superior to my upgraded 05 system. Also I have noticed that it is better with the top down than any convertible I have ever had. I suggest you try to listen to both before you make a decision. If possible bring a CD you are familiar with for the test.

I can't speak to the 20" wheels, I have the 19" wheels on my XK and they ride much better than the 05 XK8 which had 18" wheels.
