Default Speaking of dreams......

Hi all,
Not sure this fits in this section, but, will press on....
It was mentioned we might follow our dreams. This led me to ponder how I came to love these Jags, and I do, regardless of the good days or bad days.

It was in the early 60s ('62, maybe) I was literally walking my "mile" to Jr HS. One day on walking home, I cut across the car dealer's (Archway Ford , Edmondson Village, MD) lot, when I came upon this gorgeous convertible in a light tan. It was the coolest looking sporty car I'd ever seen. I later learned this was an early E-type roadster. It just so happened, one of the older guys in my neighborhood purchased it. By the time I met him , he had sold it. Anyway, I never forgot that week of my walking by it oogling until it disappeared. Ugh!
Fast forward to my mid 20s, twas starting my career, and was newly married. It was when I began yearning for second car, that a friend mentioned, why don't you by a Jag? (I guess I was always talking about them). So, I started looking (early 70s) and there were no roadsters in the Md, DC area. Then, one day a work mate mentioned to me there were a "bunch" of jags on a used car lot (Sebring Motors) in York, PA. We ventured there on a Sunday and yes, there were a number of Jags (coupes, roadsters, and 2+2s. Since these were the days of "blue laws", I had to wait until Monday. Monday, first thing, I call the dealership asking about the red roadster, struck a deal $500 down. Good! I call my insurance company to set it up...OH NO! It seems my "wilder" days of the numerous speeding tickets had fought up with me as they would "not" cover me in such a "fast vehicle". Ugh, again! So, a call-back to the dealer and he offered, how about the family car version, a 2+2? Anxious for any jag at this point, I re-called my agent at Travelers Ins., "Hoorah"! They'll cover me with a 2+2. Since this was May of '73, I offered it to my new bride as her birthday present and we drove this gem back to our modest row home in MD.
Well, as life happens, a few years later my wife and I divorce. Low and behold, I got the Jag, our Yorkie (Tar-Zan) and the modest little house.
Fast forward many years hence, I still have a Yorkie (Jeze-A-Belle), she's #3 in the chain now and I still have the 2+2. Funny thing happened last fall, since we had a daughter together, my ex-wife was here and saw the Jag. She lamented how it "used" to be hers......
I just chuckled as she left.......
Happy Motoring today....

After owning my 63 Vett and hearing Dead Man's Curve it was time to get the Jag. 66 E Coupe. Fun was had by all and the Jag journey began.

Many years ago, when I was a little tyke, my grandmother gave me a 1/8 scale model kit for a red Jaguar XKE. I think that's what put owning a Jaguar on the bucket list in the back of my mind (and every car I've owned has been some shade of red!).
Never really gave ownership a serious thought, as the prices were always well above my means.
When my wife started suggesting that my Lexus was getting long-in-the-tooth, and that I should shop for a 'new' car, the bucket list came to mind.
After checking prices for Plymouth Superbirds, it was obvious that nice ones were way beyond my reach, so then checking on Jaguars, I didn't see anything at the local dealer that stuck my fancy. In turning to the web, I stumbled onto the 'new' XK design (I hadn't thought about Jaguars since the X100's came out), and it made me smile, and so I began my search.
I'm an impulse buyer kind of guy. Found a red '07 XKR near by, test drove it (with an even bigger smile on my face), and tried negotiating the price. That dealer wouldn't budge, and the car had issues that would require $$ to fix.
Searched the web some more, no other red XKR convertibles (in my price range) were available anywhere, so I found I nice XK (by the dealer photos) halfway across the country, bought it unseen, and had it shipped to me.
Jaguar bucket list entry... CHECK!

Wife was a little miffed that I didn't actually replace the Lexus, as I kept it for winter driving. But she does like riding in the Jag on nice summer days!

Love that car. Hopefully I'll have one in my garage in a few years. Along with a Daytona Coupe and a 53 Ford Pickup....The list goes on and on.
