Default Starting problems...again

Previously I thought that I had a bad tank of gas [and maybe I really did]. For a while everything was running fine but today I went to start my 2007 XK and it started - then died (as if it is not getting enough fuel) . On the third try I gave it gas so it wouldn't die and it stays on and works as normal.

Thoughts?

Did you get a check engine light ? Even if you didn't you should check the OBDII port to see if there is a pending code. If you have one let us know and we'll go from there. If you don't have one you may need to get the Jaguar system hooked up to see what they find.

No check engine light. When I had this problem before I had it diagnosed via ODDII by my mechanic and nothing showed up. I might just take it to the dealer and see if they have better luck. Very frustrating indeed. Good thing I have my 1988 Porsche to fall back on...lol

I sometimes have issues with mine starting and then sputtering as well. It's never died but I usually give it a little gas to bump it up to about 1000RPM for a few seconds then it will settle on out. I have a bluetooth OBD2 dongle on the car all the time and this never produces a code. I'm thinking about trying some injector cleaner.

Just an FYI there are what is called "pre-codes" which are usually not found by most aftermarket scanners. This is the type that a dealer or great independent shop will have.

I used to use Chevron Techron in the past to keep my injectors clean...I wonder if it would work on my 2007 xk? Most likely I will be making a trip to the dealer this week to sort this out.

They're called pending codes (if you have any).

Could be blocked fuel filter / failing pump.

I recall reading here about a higher ethanol winter blend fuel problem, as my 08 was doing the same thing. This was in the late fall, and I have not had the issue since, after starting to run only 93 Exxon. Not sure if that fixed it, the fuel maps reset, or the fuel blend changed. There is a tech bulletin for it outlining a dealer fix. Search winter fuel ethanol, etc and it should pop.

The gas pedal operates more than the gas, it also opens the throttle body and gives it air. The problems you describe can easily be air starvation, caused by several things. When you start an engine it automatically chokes the air to give the car mainly only fuel. Just a tiny bit of air for combustion. If your sensors readings are wrong or air passages (throttle body/ intake) naturally choked that it would essentially be too much choke, which you then solve by putting your foot on the gas.

Chevron Techron is the best stuff on earth- should be used religiously, its totally safe and it totally works.

You can use techron to manually clean stuff as well.

I put two bottles of Chevron Techron and the starting and idle seems back to normal again. Car is starting and driving very nice. I am still going to get the battery tender and report back.
