Steering Wheel mount
#21
A heated steering wheel was not available on the 2009 XKR Portfolio models. I'm not sure, but I believe the same is true for the 2008 XKR Portfolios. They were the top-of-the-line models, and I don't understand why a heated steering wheel wasn't available.
So, Sean, are you saying that if I found a used or new heated XKR steering wheel that is identical to mine with the Adaptive Cruise switches, and bought the heater module, that it could be done? I presume that SDD reconfiguration would be necessary, but what about my touchscreen? Would I need a new touchscreen or could mine be reconfigured with SDD to show the icon that controls the heated steering wheel?
Has anyone actually done it?

I dunno if anyone's done it but yes, if you look at the wiring diagram, you need the ecu steering module? (based on the wiring diagram it appears to be in the wheel, most likely behind the control buttons but I'm only guessing) You need to configure SDD Configuration file to include heated steering wheel and then it will show on your touchscreen. My car came with it and I have disabled it, the steering wheel heat feature disappeared from the touchscreen and reappeared once I added it back in.

Stuart, from what I see, the heated steering wheel contact module is one of the steering column switches. It's controlled by the ATC (automatic temperature control) module. You would have to check the EPC to see if there is a different ATC for heated steering wheel or not. If not, I surmise that you would only need to wire in the module once you got the wheel.

Thanks, Sean. Retrofitting my XKR with a heated steering wheel would be nice, but I probably won't do it since there's very little bang for the buck. It's not my primary driver - I drive it on nice days. My XJ has a heated steering wheel and it's great for the few days I need it in Atlanta.
