Default stereo settings wont work

I just bought a used 2007 XK. Depending on what screen is showing, there are some "dead spots" on the touch screen. One such screen is stereo settings - the up button for treble and subwoofer works but not the down button (bass works fine) So the subwoofer is pinned on high as is the treble and sounds way too tinny and rumbling as a result. Any ideas on how to fix this ? If there were some way to reset that would work (I just wouldnt turn up the subwoofer and treble). any ideas much appreciated

First suggestion do a search by typing in the search box tone controls on touch screen don't work. If that doesn't yield an answer make sure your battery is carrying a full charge. Lots of electrical/electronic gremlins show up if the battery is tired(weak). At any rate check the battery's age, condition and charge status at your favorite auto parts store.

At any rate if you are not driving your xk on a daily basis buy and hook up a battery tender preferably a Ctek which can be bought on Amazon for less than $100. Installation takes just a few minutes.

Another issue could be resetting the xk by unhooking the battery per the owner's manual and touching the two cables together. Then re-attaching the battery cables. If you do this or change the battery your car will go back to default and you will have to reset your personal preferences and probably the electronic parking brake.

You can find a manual for your xk on this forum up at the top of the home thread. You can download it at no cost. I'm sure other members will chime in with more input for your consideration.

Having said all that welcome to an amazingly useful information source and the wonderful world of XKs. Enjoy your ride and when you have a chance post some pics.

also with a CTEK do you leave the charger plugged into the wall (and car battery) whenever the car is gonna sit for a couple days or longer ?

As would be expected everyone has their own method of using a smart charger. For some unless you use the car 3 or 4 times a week they don't plug in for others they plug in after every use as I do because sometimes I use the car once a week and sometimes once a month. So I would suggest once you confirm that your battery is good and up to 80-90% charge decide how you want to use a charger. Good luck and have fun.

And so do I - which is why I have had absolutely no electronic (or any other) issues with my XK. Full battery voltage, all the time, makes for a very happy XK and a very happy owner.
