Default Strange gurgling - RESOLVED

My 2011 xkr has a strange guggle/ scrape sound which only happens during deceleration and right turns. Its not the brakes or steering beyond that I’m at a loss.
its not getting any worse nor does it effect performance….its just very annoying
any ideas?
thanks in advance

Do some short tests on a downhill stretch with the engine switched off in neutral to narrow down the source.

Assuming only happens on right turns means you've at least isolated the source to the front of the vehicle? Have you checked the wheelarch liner is properly secured? A wheel rubbing against it makes an odd scraping sound.

great idea. It turns out that when at speed, i put the car in neutral slow then turn it’s completely quiet. It also only makes this odd sound above 3,300 rpm. Slowing down and or turning right

If the engine has to be running with the wheel turned it sounds like a problem with the power steering pump although I'm not sure why it makes a noise when slowing down. Can you get it to make the noise by putting the front wheels on some gravel, running the engine up to 3300 revs and then turning the steering wheel from side to side? If the noise appears then it is definitely the PAS pump.

Obviously you need to check that the level in the pump is correct just to rule that out.

Is this something new (when did it start)? Or has it been happening since you bought the car (and how long has that been)?

started a few months ago with no new parts added

new find: .in D mode it doesn’t make the sound only during manual mode paddle shifting or S mode slight aggressive driving (revs over 3,5k)

Did you just start regularly using the paddles or S mode a few months ago also? You’re not just hearing the throttle blibs on the downshifts are you? (They do give a nice, what I’d call a ‘burble’.)

well, if nothing else, the momentum of the vehicle might be causing moving parts to make contact somewhere they shouldn't, or pull on a duct/pipe they shouldn't and expose a crack or seal or something.

Any idea as to what was causing the sound you heard?

Fluttering is applicable….it may have been the air filters as they we’re definitely toast.
