I was trying to manually reset the convertible roof on my 2007 XKR convertible after it had partially opened (before having read the helpful posts on this forum). Somewhere along the way I got the tonneau cover stuck in the raised position and it is locked there. I can see no way of dropping it into the closed position. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to release so that I can close the tonneau and get back to the manual reset process? Many thanks.

If Cee Jays help doesn't get it for you see posts 1 and 3 here for description of issue and possible solution. Its hard (for me) to say if holding the top button for 60 seconds will help you at this point but you may be able to make a judgment after reading through this.

 

Many thanks for the helpful posts. The tonneau which was stuck in the raised position closed itself after "resting" overnight in my garage. Presumably the hydraulic pressure bled off. I then followed the convertible roof reset procedure suggested (without battery disconnect/reconnect step first) and at the second attempt the hood operated successfully. I suspected that the initial hood failure in the partially latched position may have been due to a less than fully charged battery, so took the car on a 50 mile drive to boost it.

The next morning I tried to start the car and it was "dead". No ignition and the side lights came on and stayed on. The lights were switched off but side lights were illuminated! There was no way to switch them off. I assumed the battery was too low to start car and lights-on is some sort of failure/safety mode.

I charged the battery with a standard charger over night but still no success. I disconnected the battery to extinguish the side lights and to preserve remaining charge and called my Jaguar specialist a couple of days later. He came out and used a CTEC XS 25000 charger on the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnected the battery. He then reconnected the CTEC to the battery in "supply mode" and the car fired on the first press.

The battery was replaced a few of weeks ago after a similar "no ignition" problem and ran well until the roof/tonneau problem. My guess is that there is an intermittent power drain from a faulty part or short circuit. As of today, after the recharge, the car is running well. I have ordered a CTEC of my own but would like to get to the bottom of the problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to how best to locate the power drain/faulty part without having to spend mega bucks at the dealership?

 

Hmm. I dont. Have you connected an OBD II to see if you have any engine codes that might tell you something?

I would optimistically say it shouldn't be "big" bucks for them to diagnose it. I believe they have test connections set up on the car and the dealer should be able to hook up to them and run diagnostics for an hour or two charge and find if there is an unusual voltage loss or current draw.

 

Well, perhaps a parasitic drain test may be in order...first, to determine how big the drain. Remove the ground terminal from the battery and connect a VOM lead to the ground battery (neg.) terminal. Connect the other lead of the VOM to the removed battery "-" (N) side cable. Turn on the VOM select the DC AMPS and take a reading.
Should be little, if any drain value....from here, its a matter of removing fuses until the culprit circuit is located. There may be other ways, but, this is what I'ved use over the years. Good Luck....
Also, when garaged, always use your Key Fob to lock the car. This will cause all of the systems to shut down. Otherwise, a few may remain "live".

 

Putting the top down. I’m putting a tarp down on your first push the button if it only goes back a little bit and it does nothing I found it if you keep your finger on the button for like 30 to 60 seconds it works perfectly then overtime you don’t have to hold it that much
