Default 2000XK8 Convertible went nuts electrically - resolved

Greetings all you Jag Enthusiasts out there.

Did a good one this time. My Jag went nuts electrically.
This past Wednesday, the car lost it. I lowered the top only about 1/4 of the way and left it there until today. Had some weatherstipping work. Tried to lower it all the way and nothing. Rear windows would not move up or down. Checked all associated fuses and relays, they're ok. Checked the up/down switch, that's ok. Then suddenly a whole slew of warning messages came on, eg: bonnet not latched, trans problem, ASC not working, Traction control not working. Holy Sierra! what did I do?
Car starts, Runs, front windows open, radio on.

One mistake, I put a small battery charger on one the direct cables under the hood on the drivers side to the fuse box from the battery cable. Red on the cable, black on the ground. 2 amps 18VDC should have been 12VDC.

Oh schitt! Am I in deep?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Semper Fi,

Bill

Suck it up marine. Try disconnecting your battery and fully charging it away from the car. While this is going on the computers will have chance to fully reset.
Check the fuses in the box you connected the charger to.
Reconnect your battery when fully charged, reset any memory functions and then try again.
Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running, should be 14.4 v.

Finally, only connect a charger where the manufacturer recommends ie the battery and ground.

Hope this helps Bill.

I use the fuse box connections all the the time for my battery maintainer chargers. Electrical systems are ignorant, they can't tell where the charger is connected. A definite wrong is to attempt jump starting the car from a fusebox connection.

But 18V may have been a mistake. If you didn't turn the ignition on while charging there may be no harm, but we won't know until the battery is properly charged and re connected.

If your roof is ¼ of the way open and you let it sit and you attempted to make it operate and it does not it could be a few things but most of the time it is confused.

The roof system is hydraulic but is controlled by two modules the security and body control module and it may be confused and I am sure you attempted to open the close then open then close the roof and now it does not know what to do. Go to the trunk and access the pump and open the petcock and park the roof open by hand then use the allen wrench ar the pump to close the latch at the header then close the petcock. Also check the fluid level in the pump tank to the top embossed line and refill if necessary. Then do a hard reset at the battery. After that is done operate the roof electrically and hold the button you should hear the pump running the latch open and the roof move to the closed position.

See if this helps! Also as a side note be sure your battery is fully charged before you get going on this.
