My mechanic swears by sticking with OEM on Jags.

Stants have been around forever, and not really known for anythings but a straight inexpensive OEM replacement.
I have wondered about these folks, but have not heard from any users, so they too may be pure hype

I agree here.

I have only had to replace one thermostat in a Jag. Fortunately, I live only about 5 miles from a Jaguar parts dealer (Coventry West) so I get real Jaguar stuff from them. They have a website - you can order parts from them - everything from oil filters to transmissions. They sell new and used parts cheaper than what you will get it from the dealer.

I also get stuff Nalley Jaguar in Roswell, Georgia. They give a %15 discount by mentioning that you are a Jag forums member. There used to be a guy named Dan that we dealt with but he has moved on; however they still honor the discount.

I would get a real Jag thermostat for my XK/XKR.

Is it ok just to replace the thermostat or should I replace the thermostat cover as well, if I stay with the stock parts ?

Is there actually any indicator for overheating?
What happens if the engine gets to hot, will just the CE light go on?

Post resurrection, sorry as I just ran across this info:
Your message center will alert you. I has two stages of alert, the first is at 244.4(F) degrees(118C) it displays an amber warning triangle and says "Engine Temperature High"

At 247 degrees (119.4C) the triangle goes red and warning is "Engine Overheating".

Just passing on stuff.... even if it is a tad late...

Just 2.6*F between amber and red?

It should be

amber="pull over right this freakin' minute!"
red="now you've done it, get out your wallet"

I have a P0128 code, I checked my coolant level and there are no issues there, nor am I spilling any coolant. Should I consider replacing the Thermostat as a solution?
