Top latch mechanism.

Top latch mechanism.
I was curious as to what the top latch mechanism is. On a buddies MB he has a hydraulic latch system which unfortunately had a leaking cylinder . When I close the top on my 2012 it sounds like it latches using electric motors or an electric latch mechanism. If so is this a single motor or does it have 2 motors. As for the top itself I assume it is a elect./hydraulic unit. Last I notice during the last movement of the top to the windshield frame it sometimes comes down to hard. Is there an adjustment to soften this move. Just curious.

Your description is the same as mine. I understand the windshield latch(s) are electrically driven, and the top is hydraulic. As for the top flipping over and coming down to close, my top does the same. I have never had any top related problems.
I do wonder if the latches can somehow be lubricated so that in the final process of closing, the latches close easily. It is easy to hear them opening and closing when the top gets activated.
I bet WhiteXKR (Steve) knows the exact method of operation with the top and latches. Perhaps he can educate us Jaguar Convert owners.

You are all correct.
The earlier X100 convertible was infamous for the hydraulically operated top latch which would spring a leak in the hose in the header and soak the driver in green hydraulic fluid every few years.
Jaguar wised up with the X150 and made the latch electrically operated. It is basically an electric motor driving a reduction gearbox driving a screw mechanism which draws the top down into locked position.
