Default Tracked the XK last weekend - well sort of

Our local club took a trip to a local track last Saturday and we got to do 3 laps on their 2.7 mile track (all 11 of us in a line following a pace car), First lap was fairly slow to get to know the track a little, On the second and third lap, the pace car took it up a notch so I put it in Sport mode. We got up to 90mph on one of the straightaways. I've never done that before and I didn't want to test my lack of abilities as well as my all season tires so I didn't push as hard as I probably could have but it was great fun! We did get to watch some bikes race as well as a bunch of Porches and a couple of Corvettes,

Don't ask for tack times because we didn't time laps and it would probably be embarrassing anyway

Someone took pics but I haven't seen them yet. I'll throw some up here if I can get my hands one them.

Texas - can probably do more than 90 just getting to the end of the drive.

If you had a good time, track time doesn't matter imo.

The most enjoyable time I ever had on the track was one year up at Sonoma where after spinning my Pantera on a wet track, I ran down to the local car rental agency and rented whatever they had which was a 6 cyl. Mustang. I did not know at the time that it also had a governor on it that prevented rpms from exceeding 4000. It taught me more about driving in one session by learning how to keep the revs up than any other session I had ever had on the track. It most likely was not the fastest but certainly the most enjoyable learning experience I've had on the track.

Also, in the first couple of weeks that I had my 5.0L coupe with its new engine, I tracked it at Buttonwillow Raceway in Bakersfield. On the extended back straightaway I reached about 140mph before I ran out of guts since I had never really tested the stopping power of the new to me brakes. I probably could have squeezed a little bit more in retrospect.

I've been to Donington and Nurburgring in my XKR. Not the intended use of the car but it did well. The EBC Yellow Stuff pads that people rate on here were god awful on track (had brake fad after 4 corners) So i went with some coustom made CarboTech Lorraine XP10's for Nurburg, made one hell of a diffference and managed an 8:58 btg (not quick but good time for the car!). Car did better than expected!

(Had about 160 at the end of the gantry which surprised me how quickly it gets there!)

PGBT has a little-used section near Rowlett that, by my observations and some math, would seem to provide for a speed of 135mph or so...

for sure. Ive done >100 on 190. In the XK it's nothing. There are a lot of good areas of 190 east of 75.

I ran out of guts at 130-135 at the Virginia International Raceway at a Ferrari Club of America track day. Looking forward to getting back out there again in the spring now that I've spent a few more days on the track. It's addictive.
