About a week ago, my turn signal went from making the usual ticking noise when operated to sounding more like a maraca. At the same time the 'no seat belt' warning sound became buzzy too (the one that occurs if you pop your seatbelt before turning off the engine). Fast forward to a couple of days ago and whatever makes the noise has given in completely - there is no noise at all when indicating, or from the seat belt warning.

I have checked and the indicator lights themselves are operating as normal. It is actually a preferable setup, since I don't really see much purpose in the clicking indicator and I habitually put on my seatbelt. I'm tempted to leave it this way, but I'm concerned that in addition to the turn signal and seat bell warnings, there might be some additional audible warnings that came from the same source that I will no longer hear . Can anyone confirm?

 

The sounder is part of the instrument cluster. I broke mine off completely because I could no longer stand the constant sound while im driving due to the 'Park Brake Fault' message I have not fixed.

So to answer your question, the parking brake fault/engaged also makes that noise.

No turn signal noise

The sounder also beeps at you when you press the door lock button on your Smartkey remote or on your exterior door handle more than once within 3 seconds.

 

I have the same issue on my 2012 XF, no sound now. Plus I have noticed the flick function on the indicator stalk (which gives 3 flashes then stops) no longer works.
Does anyone know what this will cost to repair? I can live without it but an afraid I will leave the indicators on in error.
