Default Tweeter ring cracked?

Hello All,

Has anyone else experienced this on the early X150's? I looked over and noticed my tweeter ring must have cracked recently, since the last time I drove my vehicle. I know once they went to the B&W system this became chromed.

I think the ring is fragile so not surprised yours cracked. The plastic on the car does get more brittle with age.
On my 2008 XKR, my tweeter grill fell in. Turns out the inner part of the ring (the portion you can’t see behind the grill inside the inner trim cover that mounts to the door) had broken so my speaker was adrift. And the speaker is what holds the grill in place.
In your case, I wouldn’t be surprised if the crack you can see extends into this inner part as well. Sorry I don’t have pictures to share as wasn’t smart enough at the time to document my repair.
I was able to epoxy things back together as a new trim cover is $300. You can’t buy just the tweeter ring unfortunately. In removing the inner trim cover, I broke one of the mounting tabs but was able to epoxy it back on.
Warm the cover/trim ring with a hair dryer if you decide to remove it to reduce risk of breaking.

I just measured the one on the F pace and it is 2 inches in diameter. It is also a one piece design. When I get home I’ll measure the one on the XKR.

As I suspected the one on the XKR measure 1-3/4", so definitely not a fit.

The crack looks minor and I would leave it be lest you find yourself creating a bigger problem. Perhaps one will show on eBay or the like.

For what it's worth I bet I could 3d print a replacement for that ring.

That would be awesome. You would have customers like me! The ring you see is the tip of the ice berg though as lots going on the backside

It's just a matter of getting into the CAD software then finding the right color of ABS to print it with. I could 3d scan the part if I had access to one. Short of that a detailed build description including measurements and I could form it from scratch.

The end result would probably be more that $50 worth of effort so you have to take that into consideration when it comes to that or just buying the piece. I do a lot of reconstruction of strange parts in order to keep my 18+ pinball machines running. Often something will break that there is not a readily available replacement for.

Yes, one offs are expensive relative to mass production. Maybe others would be interested to come up with a viable price point for you. Interesting hobby with your pinball machines. I love analog!
Problem with this trim ring is you can only buy it as part of the larger interior trim piece from Jaguar at $300.

The amount of actual plastic involved is seriously like a nickel. It's just the design time that's "pricey" to so speak. I dunno. If enough people wanted these things I'd be happy to produce them at next to nothing.

Oh. My. God. I think my car is beautiful. But when I look close I see all of the flaws. ALL OF THEM. But it's still beautiful.

If the only flaw on my car was a cracked tweeter ring, I think I would be afraid to drive it.

Or start it.

Or touch it.
