USB Audio and Ipod support
Hi Guys,
I recently purchased my 2010 XKR been using CDs I tried loading a Fat32 formatted 32 GB USB Drive with Audio files a mixture and mp3 and ACC files but the drive isn't recognised.
Looking for a USB or even Ipod solution I have an iPod cable with the car but what iPod versions are compatible with a 2010 XKR?

Here’s a quote from a third party software provider’s page (I won’t link to them, but ‘easy’ to find):
”If the USB flash drive is within 32GB, the native Windows File Explorer and Windows Disk Management are good FAT32 formatter. However, if you want to format 64GB or 128GB USB to FAT32, you can only depend on CMD (Usually diskpart and powershell) and a third-party FAT32 format tool.”
Tried that last night and got this error message volume too big for Fat 32, tried again this morning using the command in powershell admin and it works takes ages but it works thanks.

Seem to be an issue with Windows 10 not wanting to format drives above 32GB had to install minitool partition software to format the 128GB drive. Filled the drive with 6GB of music files but the Jag still doesn't recognise it.
I just bought a 2011 XK and finding the USB reliability to be sketchy. Tried 5 different drives from different manufacturers and sizes from 4G up to 128GB loaded with all MP3s. I have just been trying them randomly and occasionally get one to dock and play but unplug it and plug back in, then it doesn't find anything. I have all drives loaded with Artist / album / song.mp3 file structure. I just found one (Patriot brand) that worked as soon as I plugged it in.... shut off car, restarted car and it started immediately playing. Will see tomorrow if it's always going to play. It was a smaller size flash and older usb version... Probably 2.0.
I thought it was bad USB interface on my new (2011) car but after reading this thread, I see many of you are having issues.
I'll update this thread if I find anything new.

Not sure how different 2010 and 2013 entertainment systems are but FWIW..
In my wife's 2013 xkr we run the Jag iPod cable connected to an iPod to Lightning cable and use iPhones. Steering wheel controls, touch screen, etc. all work fine. The car seems to think it's an iPod. Initially we had problems with my wife's phone pausing 5 seconds after pushing "Play" on Spotify, but it turned out she had uninstalled Apple Music which apparently contains some important software bits. Reinstalled and it now works. We've tested with 3 different iPhones which are between 1-4 years old, all work fine.

My USB issue seems to have gone away or I found the working solution. I put a new 32GB USB3.1 fat32 formatted (default) stick in it and did what I read somewhere, "Create a root folder called Music". Then I put in around ~25GB artists/album/song.mp3 folders under that. To my surprise it loads very fast and reads/plays very well. Not sure exactly what the magic formula was but I have thousands of songs available in the XK,...... So now I'm not tampering with it unless I have to.
