Default Vent and other Bezels...

Hi guys,

First ever post so please be gentle.

I hate hate HATE the wood grain finish in my car! I'm 48 not 70, so it's my intention to wrap it. I was wondering if any of you have wrapped these panels the same colour as the vent bezels? When I say vent bezels, i also mean the same colour as most of the other panels or bezels in the car...

Even the Infotainment bezel has the same...

Kelvin

I wrapped mine. Mine were silver aluminium, which I did not dislike but just wanted to experiment. I used vinyl wrap off eBay (carbon fibre look) and although it was my first time wrapping anything, I found it easy to get a good result. Watch a few YouTube videos first. The parts prise off (I have a set of trim tools but you can use any blunt, thin plastic tool to pry off the panels. Work around where the clips are and gently pull off the panels. If the metal retaining clips come off with the panel, remove them and push them back into the holes on the car - they won't locate and fasten properly if you try to reassemble with the clips on the removed part.

I am not sure if I prefer the new look or the original aluminium, but the good news is that the wrap is easily removed. Buy more wrap than you need (it's cheap) because you will probably mess up the first attempt. Here is what mine looks like:

I am a huge fan of wood in Jags. Burlwood. Covering up wood normally would not make any sense to me but I must agree... Your wood sucks. If it were me I'd cover it with.... wait for it.... a Burlwood wrap. Nope I'm not "70" but it certainly looks like I might actually make it.

I have wood (walnut) in my X-Type sedan runabout and love that look. But in the XKR I prefer something a bit 'sportier'. Have to admit though that wood, combined with the right interior trim, can look stunning too.

My wood does suck and thanks for the advice but I'm really not keen on any wood in cars!
Thanks for the response...

A set of trim tools is pretty inexpensive. I got mine for less than $10US. Well worth the expenditure, especially if you plan to do anything else in the interior.

Kelvin and Barnsie,

Your interiors look almost exactly like mine, except your steering wheels are on the wrong side!

Ivory/Slate, Rich Oak veneer and mods.

I'm a fan of wood in Jags, it's classic and classy. For me, it's perfect. But Jaguar knew that wood is not for everyone, and that's why they offered the Spun Aluminum option.

In his Top Gear video review of the 2007 XKR, Jeremy Clarkson hated the Spun Aluminum trim, and said: "... and all I've got in here is sort of five acres of... tinfoil."

Different strokes for different folks.

My thoughts exactly!
Wood in my cooking S-Type looks right. Metal would look odd. However, I much prefer the darker mesh aluminium in the later XKRs to any wood. For me, it suits the nature of the car perfectly: Jaguar XKR gallery. AutoBibiki #10

The older spun aluminium is too light though.

The Ivory and Slate leather with contrasting double-stitching was a factory option, except for the dark gray floormats that match the Slate leather. It came from the factory with Ivory carpet and Ivory floormats bound in Ivory genuine leather that were exclusive to the XKR Portfolio . Those floormats are gorgeous but impractical. I got tired of constantly cleaning them, so I put them in storage and got the dark gray logo mats.
