Howdy from south Texas everyone!

I am having some weirdness with my OE key fob. Some may recall that I bought the car used recently and it only came with one fox and no physical key. I have had another fob programmed since then, which plays into this narrative.

I have been using both the OE and new fob interchangeably since I bought the car. Unlock door, get in, close door, push button, kitty roars.

I noticed I didn't have much range on the OE key fob to lock/unlock the doors, so I replaced the battery last night.

Today, I got into the car today to go to work. Door unlocked, but the car said it didn't sense the key fob. I was able to put the fob into the dock, start the car and go to work.

Going to lunch, the fob unlocked the car, but wouldn't start the car, so I used the dock again.

When I got home, I tested the new battery and it pegs the green scale, so the battery seems fine.

What would cause it to work for all purposes other than recognition by the starting mechanism? Any ideas?

For testing purposes, I tested by new fob, which is NOT OE Jaguar, and the car started without using the dock. Indeed, I don't think that fob works in the dock, but that is a problem for another day.

Still have the old battery for the old fob?
I always backtrack when something suddenly doesn’t work.

 

No, I tossed it when I changed to the new one. I think I did check that it was a 2032 that came out of, right?

It makes no sense that it would work for everything other than engine start.
