What did you do to your X150 today?
#221
Interesting, I don't think my gearbox has at any point been completely smooth, before or after the oil change. I should drive another X150 to be sure, I guess.
On another note, a few days ago I cleaned the seats and the steering wheel with Lexol leather cleaner, then applied Lexol leather conditioner to everything that seemed like leather; everything except 13 in the (promo) photos below. Have I understood the leathery bits correctly? I think my car has the luxury interior package with genuine leather here and there, as it has perforated 16 way seats.
In these promo photos, the centre console leather and the glove box lid leather seem to have a much rougher pattern than the rest of the leather. On my car, however, they both look as smooth as the upper dash leather.
Anyway; I left it on overnight, and having read the forums, expected to have to buff streaks and blotches out of the seats in the morning with a cotton towel. However, to my surprise everything was absorbed, and nothing felt sticky or greasy! I applied more conditioner everywhere, which was completely absorbed again in maybe 4-6 hours, and then a third final time on just the seating surfaces of the seats, again with the same result.
Does this sound weird? The seats do feel more supple now.

Note that I'm not talking about spirited driving where the shift points are very noticable rather easy driving. We spent a couple hours today driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and I barely noticed shifts taking place.....even during steeper inclines.
Describing shift feel is subjective so you may be correct in driving another XK to use for comparison.

Good to know. Should I keep applying the conditioner until the leather no longer absorbs all of it?
Hmm...I have OBD logs with phone accelerometer data from over 2 months before the gearbox oil change, as well as similar data from the 6 months it's been after that. Perhaps I could map gear change points by looking at speed, throttle position and RPM, then see what the accelerometer data looks like.
Yeah, I guess I'll just see if I can get an XK for a test drive.

I finally got the chrome lower grill installed that I bought from 10XKR Dave. Had to remove the splash guard and found a broken tab and a cracked tab on the lower splash guard that I had to fix with the superrglue and baking soda trick.
And yea. I should remove the front tag. I had to take it off to get the grill off and there are 5 holes that need to be filled and painted so that's a project for another day, or never....
Should have come from the factory like this.....

He just got a new grill, and is happy with it, so I didn't want to rain on his parade. The first XKR that I drove had either chrome or bright silver upper and lower grills. It was too 'screen door' looking in the front for me, kind of like a wanna-be race car. I'm much happier with the look of my XK, which doesn't have a lower grill, just a black bar across the center.

I had some time yesterday to install K&N filters (I got a great deal on them.. I just wanted to replace the stockers). I also changed out the cabin air filter.
In addition, I installed a new climate control stack to get rid of the sticky / worn buttons that I had on mine. I was able to find a mint condition unit out of a 2013 XKR for $210. The center stack now looks new. Much improved!
Next up is Velocity AP tune and Pulley!
