A lugnut or a car?

 

Replaced Pirelli p-zero summer tires with Continental DWS06 plus tires. Not comfortable with the Pirellis in cold weather and do want to drive the car on decent winter days. I think these Conti all season tires are very suitable for my use of a GT car.

 

A lugnut....things like this take time hahahha. Delivery transport will be here in the morning. Picked up some oil and filter from FCP Euro, a sun shield and other new car bits. Next week some paint correcting. I have a nice gouge in the rear bumper that needs to be addressed, but a dark blue car hides this sort of stuff. One thing at a time. Looking for some new wheels as i hate the ones that came with it. Ill see if i can live with them but my gut says no.

 

Fitted* winter tyre/wheel combo Vulcans with Falken's at the front and Pirelli's at the rear now it dropped below 10c here in the UK.

Fitted new type 019 battery 100/900 which took 12 mins

* actually had someone fit them for me on my drive, cost a princely £15!!

 

Took the new car for a quick wash, removed the dealer plate and hooked up a charger to see if the battery was worth saving. If not, run to NAPA and get a new one. I have to shuffle some things in the garage to pull her in and do an oil change. One was done at Jaguar last year and 4k miles, but I still do them every year and 4k miles for longevity purposes. Reprogram the homelink, power up the sat subscription and thats about it.

 

Top down, and took a run down the Pacific coast highway.

Enough said.

 

Finally got the Jag back together and ran a test drive tonight. Replaced the Supercharger snout due to broken spring in the coupler. I think I had all the problems everyone has getting everything apart. It seems some of that work just wasn't intended to be done once the car was assembled. All in all, it wasn't the hardest thing I have done but I wouldn't look forward to doing it again. Replaced the following parts, some because I ruined them getting them out and some just because it is such a bear to get to them.

I had everything back together a few days ago only to find I had damaged the rubber reducer between the air horns and throttle body. Special thanks to GKubrak for his invaluable help in finding a place to buy the correct piece.

 

Well...the weather moderated - somewhat - here on Long Island, so I got a chance to tend to some niggly issues that've been bothering me for too long:

(1) "Adaptive Dynamics Fault" message. Have been tolerating this message and the harsh ride that comes with it for months. I had previously buzzed the issue with an ohm-meter and found the ride height sensor on left / rear was looking for a ground, which it wasn't getting.
Rather than trace the wire to wherever ground lug it was supposed to go to, I just tacked a wire onto the plug and ran it to a near-by chassis ground. Not the way I like to do things, but it cleared the problem. The softer ride is sooooo welcome.
(2) Moaning / whining sound seemingly coming from everywhere. Relaxed serpentine belt from pulleys, and spun all pulleys it wrapped around. Easy fix: belt tensioner - ballsy noise when spun. Ordered OEM replacement from eBay. Now have that quiet Jaguar
experience I've missed. Getting serpentine belt back on took longer than replacing the tensioner...99- plus inches of belting with a life of its own...sure my neighbours enjoyed my contortions laying on the engine bay wrestling the belt back on.

That's it for this year - next year...brakes all around.

 

Something simple for a change !!

a basic wash

 

Yesterday the Bovee 1000 came in and it works flawlessly with my Android. Called Sirius and told them to cancel the $25/month subscriptions on my Range Rover and boat (me crying wolf). They came back with reducing it to $7/month and adding the XK to the mix so I went from $50 a month for 2 radios to $21/month for three. Guy said to renew it in 12 months for the same deal. Mom gave me that little life hack, so thanks Mom. Shampoo'd the lower door carpet and found some coffee splashes on the floor (gone now). Today: attack the last two sticky buttons and wire brush/paint the axles as they have some surface rust. Then Im done for a while as the car needs nothing else. New custom mats are in the mail from World Upholstery, dark blue with off white border and stitching to match the seats and exterior. Still looking for some Nevis wheels as Im not a fan of the Venoms.

 

All I can say is Good Luck.
I've been searching for only the two rears for about three years now. When I DO find a pair that are under $1000 for both, they are NOT the XK spec ones, but have the offset for the XF instead. Sure, nearly everyone says they fit both, but put the XF ones on an XK and they shrink into the wheel wells and look ridiculous.
For a set of four, you're looking at $2500+. Maybe time to go Aftermarket custom built.

 

Went for a winter drive.

Installed a Cabrio wind deflector, since the sun was out (it was 70 degrees (f ) on the first day of winter) and my GF wanted to go for a ride…well what could I say?






The deflector works better than expected, up to a tested 100mph it is awesome. Since it was such a pretty day I took a little mini drone and played around with some different shooting angles.

Life is good.

Nice shots. Good pictures also, my mini drone pictures aren't quite that quality, but a bit grainier than yours.
Maybe I'll try it again once the weather here can support human life in the spring.

 

Today I replaced ten missing fasteners on my 2009 XKR. Four engine cover quarter turn fasteners, four retaining clips on fender cowls, and two trim hook fasteners on the battery cover in the trunk.

Finally got the missing lug nut key from Jag ($40...not bad) and went to town cleaning, sanding off surface rust on the rear CV drive shafts. After the surface rust was gone, they got a nice coat of flat black. The underside is immaculate now. Side note: WTF is the fender liner made out of......Berber? What a poor choice of materials. Oh....added the much needed Eject button.

 

just perusing these posts and some of the DIY technical insight is causing me heartburn. I’m looking to buy an XKR convertible and am not interested in DIY. Love the lines of the XK and the performance and ride, but glad to hear that there are some who don’t have serious problems all the time!
