Default What forums are all about

In the last 4 days, I have had personal contact with six Jaguar Forum members. In one case we were celebrating a new member's XKR purchase, having lunch together, and swapping stories, and taking photos. In another, I joined two members in a very spirited drive with other BMW and Aston owners through the twisties of the San Gabriel mountains followed by dinner. And finally, have had several phone conversations over three or four hours with another new member on the east coast who will buy his first XK on Tuesday, because he told me he was inspired by photos of some of the modifications I did to my car, and wanted to do the same and more. We talked today for nearly 2 hours about are passions for cars, mods, etc.

Besides all of the great information that we all use in dealing with problems, isn't it also about the friendships and camaraderie that comes out of forum contacts as well. For me it's been great, and I've made friendships with other members discussing both of my XKRs, first and second generations.

What a terrific forum!

hey Guys,
I'll chime in with a hearty "thank you" to the many knowledgeable members of a number of forums I frequent. Active forums are more beneficial in many ways as "hands-on" experience is where the rubber meets the road and priceless, in my opinion.
My hat's off to the knowledgeable members here who, in my short affiliation, have offered numerous tips to make my XK-R owner ship a fun experience.
Happy Trails to all...

I'd like to personally weigh in with a hearty thank you to everyone for the warm reception I received on this forum as a new member who has only posted one time. To see the response to my thread and the willingness of people to come to my assistance was inspiring. And this is some one coming from who has yet to purchase his first Jaguar. But to know that such a support mechanism is available thru this forum makes my purchase inevitable.

I want to really send out a big thanks to TBERG who spent hours on the phone with me, a complete stranger, guiding me on my prospective purchase to the point o of making me slow down and having me take my time to make an intelligent purchase. As opposed to purchasing a car today for the moment I have now decided to wait and save a little more money and puchase a better car for the long run, all to the great guidance provided by Tberg.

Again, thanks all, such a great and positive forum. I hope you guys keep it that way.

Will add my +1 here! Both TBERG and RALPHWG stepped up to the plate to assist me in the pre-purchase of my "12 XKR last week. After I flew into LA to close the deal and pick up the car, both drove into town to meet me and see the new car.

What a great day. New car and 2 new friends with a common passion!

It's guys like these and all the rest of you who make this forum great. Thank you!

Here's the pic from our meet event some time ago, what a great day!

Met some top people, saw some beautiful cars and have since either exchanged emails, texts or phone calls with many or have met up in person since.

Wasn't there a thread where Joycesjag and a few others got together with an owner over the weekend to do some major surgery on the OP's car saving thousands?

The number of members owning timing chain tools offering to loan them out as a good will gesture, and many other examples really blows my mind

Simply Superb

That is what a good forum is for, to learn and buy it right the first time. Good luck.

One thing I would point out is to consider looking nationally for a car. Shipping will be like 1200 at most and is worth it for the right car.

I thought forums were for asking:

Which is the best oil?
How often should I change my oil?
Which is better, a Valentine 1 or Passport detector?
I'm considering buying a Jag, what should I look out for? What are the common problems?
What color do you think is best?
I found a car with a salvaged title, do you think it's a good deal? Seller says everything is perfect
Is an XKR a good first car?

I'd go for 2008-2010 XKR or 2010+ XK (or XKR). The Portfolio Ed doesn't seem worth the premium. Jaguar leather absorbs jeans dye quite easily. If you car concerned, the light grey may not be the best choice.

mosesbotbol:

I am so happy you came back and really lent further specificity to the year of car I should be looking for. Some may think we are beating this to death. But following your initial lead I began looking at the 2010 XKRs (up from the 2007 XK considerations). Quickly came to see that the 2010 XKR is a little out of my reach monetarily. SO, I am happy to see that you recommend the 2008 and 2009 XKR's as well, because I believe I can swing one of those at a later point.

But I sadly must admit that the 2010 XKR is really alluring and I got to figure out how much I am losing performance wise between the 2008-9 versus the 2010. But at least Moose your followup post breathed a little life in me and brought me out of my little funk after realizing that I may not be able to afford the 2010 XKR. Sorry for the honesty

2010 XK is about the same performance as the previous model XKR. 2010+ models just have the extra detailing is more in line with what Jaguar is doing currently. The J gate is dated even though the 4.2 is more trustworthy engine IMO. Not that the 5.0 is of concern. The horizontal air vent on the body panel is more up to date styling as well.

You really have to drive all three (07 XKR, 10 XK and XKR) to see for yourself. We can talk all day on each merit, but only you can put a value per dollar for each step up. You also have to consider maintaining an XKR is more expensive. Brakes are a lot more money, there's more parts and more that "could" go wrong. That being said, I consider Jaguar to be the leaders in supercharging engines.

I could be wrong, but seems like there are more color choices with XK's than there are with XKR's...

If it was my money and I did not have a lot of it, it would be 2010+ XK as the best overall value.

OKAY Moose: I am going to look at the 2010+ XKs as I believe my finances could only handle that point. I will also look at 2008-9 XKRs, as the 2010 XKRs are over my head.

Again, thanks for helping me hone my search

I'm up in the Bay Area, Walnut Creek, to be exact. I was in Anaheim a few months ago for a long weekend. Might try to swing back around the holidays. At the rate my Jag is being repaired, I'll be renting an Aveo.
