Or would you not share this view in general?

My 2009 4.2L XKR has been exceptionally reliable. I bought it in 2010 and, except for replacing the brake pads at 30K miles and refinishing the rims (my fault, curb rash), the only repairs have been 1 catalytic converter (replaced under warranty) and my DIY repair of the rear window separating from the convertible top. I always use a battery maintainer, and have never had any electrical gremlins. And I always use a reflective sun shade to protect the leather dashboard from shrinking- it's still like new. I've never had the clogged AC drain duckbill clog up because I regularly do the DIY "close all the vents/max ac" preventive maintenance trick. I didn't expect the rear window to separate from the top, but there's not much you can do to prevent it from eventually happening in the hot Georgia sun. I was lucky to be able to fix it myself for under $100 and avoid the expense of a new top.

The 5.0L models are not quite as reliable, because they're plagued with defective water pumps. My 2013 XJ SC had the water pump replaced under warranty at 30K miles. There have been 8 versions of the water pump so far, and I'm not sure if Jaguar finally got it right. I don't trust the idiot light to warn me of overheating, so I use an inexpensive Bluetooth ELM 327 OBDII code reader and the free Torque App on an old Samsung smartphone to display virtual temperature and voltage gauges.

My XKR and XJ have been much more reliable than I expected.

To check your oil level even when it is "unavailable"; first go TO the oil level, then press the Cruise CANCEL button twice within two seconds, then go back to the Oil Level again.

Yeah, try to reset your SERVICE REMINDER. That one IS fun and the Prize is a clear display.

Hi all

again re the Navigation Cd or Dvds. What would one usually get with an XK in Europe. I understand the somewhat older navigation system uses more than one disk eg. for Europe. So how many disks should there be? 2 or 3 or more??

much appreciated!

I've had my 2010 XKR for nine months and have changed the oil, tires and battery. The one thing you need to know is if you start hav
ing weird electrical issues, chances are your battery is the culprit. That was my experience.

I seems that there are (currently) 4 disks, don't know if that may have been fewer in earlier years. And you might only expect the disc relevant for the country in which the car was purchased.

DISC A:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, San Marino, Switzerland, Vatican;

DISC B:
Andorra, France, Ireland, Monaco, United Kingdom;

DISC C:
Andorra, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden

DISC D: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Ukraine

Any last minute tips for pickup day? Any items that need to come with the car and were not mentioned yet?

Hi all

how can I find out if my XK has locking wheel nuts. If I look at the wheel nuts, they all look the same. Do the locking wheel nuts have a cover that makes them look alike the others? Where is the locking wheel nut key stored when car is delivered from factory?

They aren't locking, but CHANGE THEM IMMEDIATELY!!! The stockers are garbage. There are threads in the forum with links to buy solid nuts that wont fall apart on you and leave you stranded.

Thanks! Never thought that wheel nuts can be such a problem!! Will consider to buy Toyota OEM ones as replacement. Toyota should be good quality, right :-)).
