What's the ducts for

What's the ducts for
As I look at pictures of the 2010's+ cars I noticed a half moon type duct under the nose where the earlier models had side lights. Are these functional or are they just for looks. Also while I'm at it is there any function of the hood ducts.

Both for cooling and both functional. The bumper ducts shift air to the intakes and the hood keeps the engine cooler.
