Default Wheel Question

I spent a few hours on Sunday removing my wheels and then cleaning and polishing them with Mothers Cleaner and Polish. I also did the Alcon brake covers. After I was done I thought to myself I was wasting my time and money. The next time I use the cleaner, it is so strong the polish would be taken off. I am right? My thought was to put a polish on them so the break dust would not stick so bad.
Jim
P.S. I bought this new 12 volt Jack and Lug Wrench for $119.00 on line and it worked great, it made the job quick and easy.

Jim:

I use the Meguiars Hot Rim Brake Dust Barrier on my wheels. When I got the new Braelin BR02 wheels for my car last month I gave them multiple coats on the inside of the rims to keep them clean. Has worked well so far.

Then applied the Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Wheel Coating on the outside.....both have worked well, and are easy to clean. Nothing really sticks to the inside or outside surfaces. The wheel coating will go a long way for numerous applications.

Hope this helps other forum members and Jaguar owners.

Jim:

I noticed that you had a "R" center cap on your wheels, looks nice. Mine have a red Growler. From what I've seen most have a plan Jaguar center cap. Anyone have anything different?

Best advise is a for good wheel brushes and sponges. Wheels are not going to stay clean, no matter what you do with OEM pads, but the right tools will expedite cleaning them. I like Meguiars Wheel Brightener and buy it by the gallon. Mixes 4 to 1. Can only be used on painted wheels. I have enough that I don't worry about running out when washing the car.

I don't think the wax lasts very long with wheel cleaning products.

Sonax wheel cleaner contains no acids and is, in my opinion, the best wheel cleaning product on the market presently. They make a host of car care products, but the only one I can vouch for from personal experience is the wheel cleaner.

Clean and polish your wheels then apply OptiCoat. I have it on mine and brake dust is a non issue, it just wipes off and doesn't stick at all.

Agree totally...I used the competitive product Pinnacle Black Diamond Wheel Coating before the wheels were even mounted.

I did the same with my HREs and the dust just wipes off with no cleaners at all.. Just a wet rag or detail spray will do the trick. Even after a track day and the wheels are covered in brake dust, chunks of melted rubber, I just hose them off.

Either product will yield the same results.

I'm a believer that over time most wheel cleaners (regardless of the label stating it is safe on all finishes) can eventually wear away at the clear coat or wheels finish. I only use soap and water or meguiars cars wash mixed with water in a spray bottle. I have the appropriate brushes obtained from Autogeek and everything gets clean.

This is going to sound crazy, but here's a tip that works astonishingly well. Once you treat your wheels with a high quality coating (Pinacle / opticoat), wipe your wheels frequently with baby wipes. They are obviously gentle, but with the coating on the wheels, it cleans them up with virtually no effort. If dirt and break dust accumulates, however, a wheel cleaner may be required. Another household product good for a quick wheel clean is Swiffer pads.
