Default Wheel sizes

Does anyone know why a 2007 XKR would have 19 inch wheels with 245/40 on the front & 20 inch wheels with 255/35 on the rear?

Thanks

Aftermarket wheels I assume. 255 on the rear is pretty narrow. Someone chose poorly.

Nothing wrong per se with different diameter wheels.

It did not come that way they were changed by an owner, likely reason was their being cheap. Was this car a rebuilt or salvaged car?

255/35/20 are for the fronts also, but for a 2010+ I believe. I'm not sure. So what Leeper said, someone had them laying around or swapped 'em.

My guess is that you'll find this car was involved in an accident then bought cheaply or was rebuilt/salvaged - pretty much same thing)...people don't do as you described unless trying to be cheap

Thanks for your replies.

The cars is for sale by a Jag dealer & not listed as damaged repaired which is a UK legal requrement so i doubt if it is.

Jaguar XK XKR 4.2 2dr

I was wondering if smaller/different size wheels was a handling mod?

When I bought my car back in December it was advertised as having 19" wheels but the pics were on 20" Sentas. When I inquired with the owner as to which wheels it had she insisted they were 19" and offered me the copy of the window sticker as proof that it had 19" wheels. Not wanting to tip her off I asked her for the receipt of her recent tire purchase which clearly showed 20" Dunlops... turns out it had the $5000 optional Senta wheels as I hoped.

In this case I don't see proof there of differing wheels sizes as you state but it may exist, ask for pics of both the fronts and the rears to validate the concern... if in fact there are differing sizes with such low miles that would be highly suspicious that something odd has happened. It may be something and it may be nothing but ask for pics of both front and rear tire sizes before sounding alarms. The next step I'd take with them is simply asking what they know about the car, its history, and why someone would do such an odd thing which makes little sense if in fact it turns out as you stated

It would certainly be a "handling mod" however not in the direction one would hope as it would be a serious detriment to improving anything other tahn possibly gas mileage. Bottom line is that it makes no sense other than economically having a set of wheels lying around to put differing sized wheels especially on a Jag... makes most everyone cringe at the thought.

I don't know about the European market, but £25.900 ($37,100 USD) is an awful lot for a 2007 in the US. I figured they would be cheaper within the country which they are manufactured.

Wheels do look tiny and are hidden behind the flared arches. 17,000 miles is seriously low for a 2007.
Usually with 19" it's 245 40 R19 98 Y - 275 35 R19 100 Y, looks like these wheels are off a earlier xk8/xkr, second reply on the thread below may give the answer.

Different tire size is something altogether different than differing wheel diameter sizing.

Cee Jay - with regard to pricing ALL cars are far more expensive in Europe than here, even more so in Australia... then you also need to add to that a huge purchase tax. We get to basque in our purchase prices and our low gas prices

Just the opposite in UK.
Cheaper to bring in a British luxury car that was sold on the moon. Provided you had owned it for a while on the moon. And then kept it for a while before selling it.

Why do you think I am here Stateside. It was all fun and games till I got to the luxury car level. A luxury car purchase is actually a pledge to support three others in the UK.

You don't mention why you think the wheels are different sizes. Are you just going by the fact that the ad mentions both 19 and 20 inch wheels or have you seen them in the flesh?

The reason I ask is because the wheels shown in the photos and mentioned in the ad are Jupiter's and as far as I can see were only supplied as a 19 inch wheel.

You guys don't know you're born when it comes to car prices, we have to pay VAT (tax) on the car tax that has been added to the purchase price.

I've now used another site to determine the wheel & tyre sizes so it looks as if the original buyer just didn't want to pay extra for 20 inch wheels.

Thanks for all of your replies.

That is different from what you wrote - in your initial post you stated that this car had 19" wheels up front and 20" wheels in back. The advert doesn't say anything about that rather is says it has 19" which make sense. It is the difference in 19" versus 20" that brings up a HUGE red flag only because that would mean different sizes especially on a low mileage car. Now you are saying that both are 19" which is standard factory size just showing that they didn't opt for the larger 20". Where did you get those wheel sizes that you initially brought up? 19" OR 20" are both fine, 19" AND 20" are not fine hence our concern... please clarify

As previously indicated, the Jupiter wheels were only offered in a 19" fitment. Also the rear Pirelli tire says it is a 275/35-ZR19 although it is hard to tell. Because of the staggered front to back design from Jaguar, I have heard of some people replacing the rear wheels with matching fronts to make it easier to rotate or replace a damaged tire. I doubt that is the case here.
