Default Entire dashboard is separating at the windshield

I have a 2010 XK. Has 70k miles. Garaged most of the time.
Already had to replace the roof.
Now a seam is opening as if the entire dashboard is breaking away from the windshield area.
What a piece of junk.
Im in Rhode Island. Anyone know what I can do or where to take it ???
jaguar says the entire piece has to be replaced. $$$$
they (jaguar) wanted 5k for The top. I got it done for much less

cant believe they sell these cars for $90k+.

I am guessing that you haven't owned a Maserati or a Mercedes...it is almost certain that your car has experienced long periods of sun/heat without the benefit of a leather conditioner being used. Replacement of convertible roofs is not in any way unusual on any make. The shrinking of the leather on the dash is generally (but not only) experienced in geographical areas of high heat/sun...and it is not good - we can all agree on that. Leather is susceptible to damage unless it receives attention (and Jaguar should have taken this more into account). But labelling your car as therefore a "piece of junk" is hyperbolic and definitely not an opinion shared by most owners of an XK.. There are threads on the issue of leather dash shrinkage which might be of help.

Sorry to hear you're having issues, but as SOV211 indicated, there are lots of threads on this issue that should be very helpful.
Unlike "plastic" interiors, one of leathers drawbacks is that it does need to be cared for and it is possible the PO neglected it enough that you are now paying the price.
From what I've read in the shrinking/pulling leather dash theads is that it is not a terminal problem and can easily be delt with by any competent upholtery shop with reasonable cost. I'd stay away from a dealership as they tend to want to fix it with new $$$ parts.

You need to read through the thread called "leather on dash pulling." where there are hundreds of posts and about 100,000 views, so it's a very common problem. I had the same issue on my 2010XKR, had my mechanic remove the dash. I then took it to my furniture upholsterer who repaired it in less than 2 hours and wouldn't charge me for the work. It's now been more than 5 years since the repair and there has been no repeat of the problem. The key is the use of staples to the frame against the windshield and around the center speaker. Once these are anchored as opposed to asking the adhesive to do all of the work, you'll not have it happen again. Before the dash came out, I had contacted an auto upholstery shop and showed him the car, and he gave me a $1300. estimate including all new leather. However, once the dash was pulled, it was so easily restretched and stapled that I just took it to my longitme upholsterer who put new adhesive and stapled all around. See my posts on that thread for pictures. Finally, when pulling the defroster vents, they are very brittle and will break, so you either have to glue them together (so save all of the little pieces), or one forum member has a thread about ones that he has had made via 3D printing, and they are very reasonable and look great. And secondly, the staples will show on the lip at the windshield, so before replacing the dash, find a small strip of leather binding (1/2" wide) and glue it over the staples. You'll have no problem if you follow this procedure. There is also the possibility of removing the windshield and doing this from the front of the car, but that's not the way I did it, so I am not positive there is enough access.

Claudia,

Please update your Personal Profile to show your location since that could be helpful in answering your questions and possibly recommending repair shops in your area. I understand the need for privacy, and a general area such as "metro Atlanta" would suffice.
