will not start
2007 xk convertible. Error message "cannot engage parking brake". Had battery checked, all ok. Tested motor that engages parking brake, it works. Ordered module on-line, replaced it, still same result.
I'm not absolutely certain about the issue here. Your thread title is will not start but your text is cannot engage parking brake.
There are so many error codes for the parking brake system that troubleshooting a fault is complete guesswork without a scantool that can read C codes.

Thanks GGG, took care of that, very informative and helpful. The car will not start apparently because it cannot engage the electronic parking brake. May have to have it towed to dealer, but I am trying to fix it myself, if possible.

You shouldn't need to engage the parking brake to start the car, just press the brake pedal!? Strange you can't start the car with no hand brake? Maybe it's the Button that's broke?
From what I have read, the car engages the electronic parking brake when you put it in park. I can manually engage and disengage it with a 12v power supply. The car is not "seeing" it engaged. I have replaced the module that controls it, but no luck.
Hey Steve, download the free tech manuals in the stickies at the top of the sub forum. You'll want the X150 service manual and the wiring diagram for your serial number range. The tech manual is actually pretty darned good and should help a lot.
Sound like you have a sensor problem. I'm not certain how the actuator works but from what I learned while doing the rear brakes, the actuator has a sensor to know if it's pulling correctly. It needs reset when you replace the rear pads. I assume it's almost too smart for it's own good. I am surprised about your comment that it's putting the brake on in park. I can hear mine pull in and never noticed it in park. Just the park pawl in the transmission engaging is all I ever hear.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes. When they set, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light also referred to as the 'check-engine-light') is turned on.
Use the OBD port to access any stored codes. If there are any, post them here.

Thanks GGG, I may have explained it wrong. Don't remember where I read that, this problem occurred a couple of months ago. I've been researching possible causes and how to fix it since then. Car still will not turn over with good battery. Error message says "cannot engage parking brake"

Sounds like a brake switch. If it's faulty, it will not allow you to start the car. Have you stepped on the brake so hard that you think you're going to break it? Try that and push the start button.
