Default Wow. On a road trip and my cat misbehaves... BAD Kitty

So I'm 5 hours from home, and suddenly everything in my car "Clicks".
The dash clicks, the seatbelts click, something in the fuse panels behind the rear seat clicks...

Every alarm light on the cluster lights up and both dials drop to zero.
Then message alerts start rapid firing on the center display.
Engine overheat
Battery not charging
Cruse control unavailable
Cats system fault

Oddly, the car is still purring down the road...

Within 5 seconds the dials spring to life.

So I pull over, run a scan on the OBD port and only get two errors.
U0405 and U0155

I write them down and clear them. All the warnings go away except the Cats system Fault.

Curiouser and curiouser....
Watching critical thing like engine temp (Stable as a rock) I drive on.

An hour later... It does the same thing.... Pulled over... Same codes... reset, and now in a hotel researching an answer

Ideas?

I'll search more, but how do I do a full ecu reset? I'd like to see if that clears he cats error, as my ODB reader does no see it in the error tables.

Bad kitty..... (but I still lover her, and gave her a bath before pulling in to the hotel)

You probably figured this out by now but, here is the description for the displayed codes:

UO405 - Invalid data received from Cruise Control Module.

UO155 - Lost communication with instrument panel cluster.

Wondering it you have an intermittent electrical connector issue?

Where are you located? Anywhere near a shop, or member? Or out in the boonies?

How old is the battery? I experienced a similar bizarre sequence of events with my 04 XJ-R. It was it's aging battery. While on our beltway, the AC shut off, the dash lit up with every fault code icon one could imagine. Nursed it home, shut it down. The engine did not crank over. Replaced the battery, "life is good".....
Good Luck....

pretty much the boonies... On the Columbia River, about 2 hours from Portland.

The Battery is new, and an AGM so not an issue.
I happened like there was a sudden short, but it happened on straight and smooth road both times....
I know loosing a voltage regulator can cause similar issues, but I remain uncertain.

I'm not panicking, but disappointed that this is hanging over my head as I am down here to drive a great road with a club tomorrow.

Additional thoughts?
Master ecu reboot procedure anyone?
Disregard- Found it

No Ideas, sorry. Just check for loose connections and cross your fingers.

Hmmm, thinking like axr6, it's an intermittent electrical connection. Perhaps, a firewall plug?
Good luck.......

Clever,
I put a new battery in mine as well. But it didn't last two months. You might get it load tested just to be safe.

You mentioned a new battery. Could it be possible that one of the terminals is not tightened all the way on the posts?

Definitely sounds like a loose connection, and somewhere pretty major to cut power to that much stuff. Battery terminals, the other end of those cables, and major earth points would be where I'd start. Do you have a copy of the wiring diagram with you on your laptop? If not, PM me your email address & the last 6 digits of your VIN and I'll send you a PDF (soon, because it's nearly bedtime over here!)

Ouch. Seems odd that it'd be the battery if it happened while the car was running. With the alternator functioning, you should have plenty of power. I'd be more likely to side with a loose connector or a fatigued wire somewhere. Perhaps even a rodent that munched on something.

I love how you're actually CARRYING a scanner though. Did you bail on the drive or are you pressing on?

Well, Kitty got me home safe and sound reminding me only once that she was not feeling well.

As for the event, we stayed and participated. She held her head high as she leaped her way up the path, showing those pesky Germans that the Brits are not to be taken lightly!

Maryhill Loops Road

Here is a basic clip.... I'll try to actually edit something better shortly, as I have many camera angles....

Nice road, car sounds good. The scenery reminds me of the South Is. of NZ.

Wow! That looks like a lot of fun!

I wish we had roads like that out here.

Thanks... I have vid from other angles that show I'm not as good as I wish (Several corners gave me problems by my not getting in tight enough to the apex, and I have some early braking problems...). As you notice there are no guard rails between you and a 240 foot deep ravine, so it keeps you on your toes!
I'll post a mix when I get time to put one together.

Still the event was fun, and we each got 10 runs!
V

Nice video, but please tell me that this was an event where the road was closed to oncoming. It would really be fun to drive knowing you had the whole road.

Had a similar experience with my XJR... Not a battery issue.
In fact, the control modules located in the boot were knocked loose by the spare tire. From that time on I occasionally confirm all relays and modules are properly seated.... Best of luck.

Btw, nice drive! A little faster next time;-)

Haha looks like it was a sanctioned event based on the cones at the end.
