Default WTB: Dash trim kit

Anyone replaced their trim kit from piano black to veneer wood or vice versa? I'm looking to purchased a set so I them as a mold to be build in carbon fiber. I need the 2 center console pieces, the ash tray cover, and the left & right door switch plates. Finish or condition isn't too important but the mounting tabs need to be in good shape. I thought its best to start here before heading over to eBay...

Trim needs to be from a 2010 or newer XK.

Thanks,

Hamish

You may want to have a chat with russduka - he got a full CF interior for his GT, and the place that did it may still have the moulds. Would save you the cost & hassle of making them.

Why not just wrap in carbon fiber wrap, somewhat like philhef did on his older XK8. He used a brushed aluminum but carbon fiber was available and applied the same way.

That's essentially what I want to do but they need the factory pieces to make the kit. I guess they must overlay the carbon fiber over the top vs. making a complete mold. Thanks.

They can be done either way. The guy I used actually peeled/removed veneer's off some of trim pieces that I supplied ( at least that's what it looked like) and installed the carbon over (keeping existing plastic backing with clips). Some parts that I supplied in piano black finish that happened to be plastic veneer he was only able do a real cf overlay if there was a tolerance for 1 to 2 mm of cf. The seat controls are plastic piano black with no tolerance because of controls actually that's why I wasn't able to change them. The mold to form the seat controls was quoted at 5k each side! due to it being puzzled together fascia, controls, inner plastics etc....I don't blame him for quoting so high. Looked like mission impossible to me when he forwarded what he would have to do to create them in cf.

And, of course, because you have real CF, I guess getting things like the door switches done using hydrographic printing isn't going to stand up to scrutiny.

That GT really is a labour of love, isn't it?

I wanted to see how the wrap would look before dropping the cash on the real stuff. It turned out so well, I decided to leave it the way it was.

It certainly isn't as nice as the real deal but, it does look a whole lot better than the stock wood trim imho. I think it's been about a year since I installed it and it looks just as good today. It took me about 4 or 5 hours to complete and total cost was all of $40

I was thinking about having them wrapped in cf look wrap, but we couldn't get an exact match and me being picky it was better to leave as black. The seat controls woulds also loose all illustrations on them. So it just made it not worth it. Labour of love yes or maybe a labour of me just losing my mind? Lol.

That wrap looks good, one of the best I've seen so far.

Thanks. The 3M stuff turned out to be much nicer than I initially expected - it has a pretty cool texture to it as well. It feels almost like raw carbon cloth when you run your fingers over it.
