Default x pipe exhaust question

I have an Arden rear section exhausted fitted on my XKR but to my surprise it isn't any louder than the stock exhaust. The tone is lovely but it certainly isn't loud enough for me.
I've read a few posts regarding the x pipe/center muffler delete options I wanted to know if you would expect a noticeable sound increase fitting one? There seems to be differing opinions on how much difference they make. Also are there any that sound any different from one another? I can see that Arden, Magnaflow and Adamesh all supply them.
Thanks.

I had an x pipe on the my XK and I really didn't notice much. Worth the weight savings I suppose if that is all you get.

Weight savings? Due to X-pipe?

Since the XK has a single mid section silencer, if you only added an X-pipe, without removing the silencer, I would expect the sound to not change much.

To the OP:
On the XKR, which has two mid section silencers, removing one to add the X-pipe should increase the sound, and removing both should crank it up even more.

Another tactic some on this forum have used, is to replace the catalytic converters with units that have a lower 'cell' count, which decreases restrictions on the exhaust flow, and can significantly increase the sound. Search this forum for 200 cell cats, or even 100 cell cats, and you'll find more info.

I had the x pipe fitted and resonators deleted from my '11 XKR and the sound was significantly louder.

The removal of the resonators results in more of a howl than a throb, though. Still sounds good, but in a different way.

Thanks for your input guys, I'm going to order one of the x pipe mix sections replacing the two silencers.
Are any better than others? I suspect the sound will be identical regardless of supplier. Adamesh seems to be the cheapest part at £500.

My exhaust guy did it for a few hundred dollars, from memory. X pipes are a fairly standard modding part, if you take your car into a decent exhaust shop they will put it up on the hoist and get the measurements, I think it will cost you far less than Adamesh have quoted.

This is what it looks like.

See if you can find an XK mid pipe. It only has one resonator. Made mine sound great without sounding like a Camaro. I picked it up for $300 US brand spankin' new. Allowed me to save my original if I didn't like it. But I luvs it.

I removed the silencer and replaced with x pipe like the picture posted in this thread; done at an exhaust shop.

As I've read the various posts over time exhaust sounds seem to be bought up a lot. It is hard to tell who likes what and what is the best sound because everyone has their own tastes. In my youth it was my Daimler SP250 that sounded the best then the side pipes on the Vette and then the uniqueness of the Ferrari V8. I just attended the vintage car races at Lime Rock park and the ranges of open exhaust has gone from 4 bangers up to the thundering Trans AM V8's. Where am I now is with what I got. I think sound wise the best of both worlds is with the 5.0L S/C with the active exhaust. With the top down and cruising in a normal drive mode there is a low exhaust note but when you hit the go peddle the noise generated is great. Also with the top up and cruising at 70 there is a silent rumble which doesn't impinge on the stereo. I know I wouldn't enjoy driving 3-4 hours with the pipes open (fuse 19) but it's nice to know you can open them up with a switch. Just my opinion.

This is the XFR-S driven hard, it had the cross pipe and sounds similar to the XKR with the cross pipe and resonator delete, though there are some other slight differences.

The XKR coupe doesnt get the sound into the cabin as much because of the fixed rear windows. I took the rear windows out when they were being tinted and the difference was significant (for the better).

Good idea flyc2c, there's a cheap xk mid exhaust section for sale local to me so I will buy that and replace the one silencer with an x pipe. Rung a couple of exhausts shops who said they would have to make the x pipe and therefore I would need to leave the car with them. So, I'm going to order an x pipe online that way its just a simple and quick job for the shop.
Does anyone know what diameter x pipe I should order? Seen the X100 XKR is 2" with a 2.25" x pipe slipping straight over. Is the X150 the same?

Might want to spend a week or two with the unmodified XK pipe. It's a nice growl. It's easy to swap out. Takes about 20 minutes.

Good idea, may give that a go as it looks a diy swap. The exhaust as is isn't anything like loud enough so I suspect both resonator delete is the option for me. I'm yet to find a video where the xkr sounds too loud!

For me it isn't the noise outside but inside. I have my limits to what I'll tolerate inside the car. I've achieved my personal balance with the XK mide pipe and fuse 19 pulled. Everybody likes their own flavor!

The XK centre section has arrived! Going to take it into the exhaust shop next week to get it swapped over and x pipe installed. I'm pushed for time so don't want to leave the car with them whilst they make an x pipe. Does anyone know what size is required so that I can purchase online beforehand?
Also what does the XKR sound like with straight pipes to the back box, is it too loud or any drone noise?

Had my X-pipe installed with both resonators deleted about two weeks ago. I've not heard ANY drone, top up or top down. One thing I DID do is reinstall fuse 19 to give me a "quiet" (heh heh) option. Really romping the throttle off the line makes quite a bit of noise. A GOOD noise.
