I won't have the option to reinstate fuse 19 as I have an aftermarket back box (Arden).

Has anyone tried straight pipes rather than the x pipe? Does that cause any drone? Just wondering what the reasons were for the x pipe really.

The X-pipe equalizes the pressure surges between cylinders (mostly 6 and 8), giving a more even flow and sound. Maybe a couple ponies at higher RPM.

So how do the neighbors like the new exhaust system?

I'm "nice" about it around home, I don't let loose until get a few hundred yards away. (most of the time) Either way, no one has really said anything.

I am waiting Spires to sell an X pipe for the 3.5 V6 in my XE. I figure I should start with that before doing a whole exhaust or should I go exhaust first then X pipe?

Moses just confirming you have the supercharged 3.0 in you XE not a 3.5

I would have guessed that x-pipes from the f type would fit the XE. There is a thread in the f type forum about using them in the V6, though I think that one poster made the point that the exhaust system uses one anyway.

Personally I'd try the x pipe before doing the whole exhaust. It is an ultra cheap mod, and pretty effective.

yes, the 3.0 supercharged... I am always confused on the size of this engine. I thought the back said 3.5? I debadged it:

In Australia the 3.0 s/c comes out with a S badge on the right hand rear .

The 2.0 turbo is badged as a 2.5t .. strange .

I miss the days when badges actually meant something not just a random series of numbers !

What a difference the x-pipe makes to the low down torque of the n/a 4.2.

I have always stated that the 4.2 absolutely loves to sing at high revs but below 3500rpm it has a large hole in the rpm range, the x-pipe has definitely solved this problem it feels a lot stronger throughout the entire rev band now.

I now have the XK center section fitted with the one silencer. It is probably 20% louder and the sound is much more raw - I like it! What it has highlighted though is a bit of a drone between 2-3000rpm, it sounds very similar to a misfire but don't think it is. I could just notice it prior to changing the exhaust, has anyone else encountered this? Is it just the firing order that the v8 has? Thinking of continuing to the x pipe in case it evens out the flow.

Thanks for the input, as I am interested in doing some exhaust work on mine. I don't drive between 2-3k rpm enough to worry about drone, lol.

I had my X-pipe installed yesterday. I removed the middle resonator but kept the rear one. I wanted to hear it with one first before I made a decision as to whether or not to remove the rear one. I can't believe the difference. It is hardly noticeable in gentle acceleration up to about 3000rpms, but if you step on it, it's incredibly more aggressive with a deep, luscious groan. Now maybe it's because I hear it more aggressively, but my butt test tells me that performance seems improved as well. Now I have to decide if I want to take out the rear resonator for an even more aggressive sound. No sign of drone, in fact, no difference whatsoever at cruising rpms 2000-2500. I will try and get some sound bites soon. For a couple of hundred dollars and an hour of my time, it was well worth it.

What size diameter X-pipe for a 5.0L XK ?

Thanks!

People will say the exhaust is 2-1/4 inches, but it's in mm, 60mm, actually. 2-1/4" falls right near, 57.15mm. 2-1/2" = 63.5mm.
Since it's nigh unto impossible to get metric pipe in the states, the 2-1/4 will suffice. That's what my x-pipe is made from.
