The rub isn't that you might hurt yourself with the top closing, it's that the safety standard states that ANYTHING that CLOSES the side windows, and the top control on the XK does, has to be PULLED away from the panel it's mounted in. That's why you have the window switches that you have to pull up on.

Here's the text from the FMVSS118:

*****************
An additional requirement, applicable only to Power-Operated Window (includes vent windows) actuation devices, is as follows (S6c) (Vehicles manufactured before 10/1/2008 need not meet this requirement, but optional early compliance is permitted):
I. Pull Up or Pull Out Test - Any actuation device for closing a power-operated window (regardless of mounting location or meeting paragraph S5 (automatic reversal)) must operate by pulling away from the surface in the vehicle on which the device is mounted. An actuation device must operate only when pulled vertically up (if horizontally mounted), or out (if vertically mounted), or in a direction perpendicular to the surrounding surface if mounted in a sloped orientation, in order to cause the window to move in the closing direction.
*****************

Consequently the roof console is changed so it has a switch like the windows. But being above, you push up on it to lower the top & windows, and hook a finger and pull it down to raise the top and windows.

Your Gub'ment at work! Like R_Rated says....... only a Democrat, because they ALWAYS know what's good for you; you're just too stupid to know it! If you don't believe that, just ask one.

My two cents......
