XK / XKR Battery Overview and Replacement
My friends 545HP, E85, XE (which we got up to 169mph at the Texas Mile several years ago) has a LiFePo4. The only issue was that initially while being detailed the battery was 'killed'. It required a restore with a special charger. It is probably the way of the future. I'll stick with the old AGM and Older 2008 XK for a while!

One thing for certain I am very appreciative of this information. (And hate voice recognition)

The voltage was like 7~8 volts. The detailer had the car several days, doors open. The battery was supplied with a charger for just such an occurance.
I guess a regular charger might have fried the BMS within the battery. The bat is guaranteed for 8 years. It is good now.

thx guy. I did a quick google search. This was the response. - “No, standard LiFePO4 batteries do not have a built-in DC-to-DC charger; this is a separate device that must be purchased and installed to charge them from a source like a vehicle's alternator. The DC-to-DC charger is crucial because it regulates the power from the alternator to prevent damage to both the battery and the alternator, ensuring a safe and efficient charging profile.”
Chaps
These batteries. The Jaguar XK alternator is designed for bog standard SLA batteries with the specific charge profile. Be careful using any other type of battery, it's not necessary and there's plenty of good quality SLA types to use. Of course sales reps will flog you any battery it's their job to sell stuff.
In case anyone doesn't know replacing the Denso alternator is a pig of a job - I think LHD vehicles slightly easier for access due to the steering rack placement.

Recently purchased a 2008 XKR convertible. Making use of the forum for valuable information.
Regarding battery replacement (yes, working through the expected electrical gremlins), I find the spec battery for my car is a group 93, however it has a 6 year old group 49 (Interstate) installed. I notice that there are far more options for a group 49 battery and the newest versions seem to exceed the specs of a group 93. Is there any reason I should not substitute a group 49? No need to discuss wet vs. agm. I am familiar with that path.
Cheers

And I'm the only one with the oem solution. Coincidentally, I'm also one of the few that does not keep the car on a maintainer and it sits fine, unused for 3 months at a time.

I will always take a pint of Guinness. ;-)
No, I do nothing. As it is parked in my locked garage, I don’t even lock it.
But as a few now do, Since the ‘80’s I have always
1. From Aux to Start, I have always waited for all start up dings, chimes, whirs to stop before going start (including hearing a pressurization in the fuel system and awaiting the pump to shut off)
2. I always turn off every accessory before shutting down
3. And the moment the battery shows a continuous theme of holding a max 75% of spec’d capacity, replace it.
every sailor knows that there are drastic differences in the quality of a battery. You get what you pay for. Take a battery apart and look at the thicknesses of the plates. There is even a difference between OE quality and OEM quality on parts. It boils down to what is it you are comfortable on spending. And if the annoyances, annoy you.
