XK8 XK XKR Specs Comparison
I compiled the following list and current market prices in California --
2005 XK8/XKR 294/390hp, 4.2-liter, 0-60 6.5/5.1sec ($25k XKR)
2007 XK/XKR 300/420hp, 4.2-liter, 0-60 6.4/4.9sec ($40k XKR)
2010 XK/XKR 385/510hp, 5.0-liter, 0-60 5.2/4.5sec ($60k XKR)
Looks like the XK8 is neck-and-neck with the early XK, at least on paper, and therefore is the best value for the money.
Your thoughts?

Don't quite know what you are really looking for and, for that matter, which section of the forum you should be looking at. But, in general, the first gen XK8/XKR are real steals in terms of what you can get for the money. The second gen (XK) has not come down as dramatically in resale as have the first gen.

I think in the real world, the 2007+ XK is much faster. Where are you getting these numbers? There is a site zeroto60times.com or something that is basically a conglomeration of different sources and isn't really good for making comparisons.
I have never driven any sort of XK/R, but the 2007+ models are just so much more sporting than the first gen XKs. As much as I like the looks of the first-gen XK, I would never consider it because it doesn't have a manual transmission (or automatic with good paddle shifting action) and is way too heavy for me. It would be great for boulevard cruising, though.

You can find various 0-60 times in different tests. The site mentioned
Jaguar 0-60 Times & Jaguar Quarter Mile Times | Jaguar XJ, XF, XK8 0-60, XJS, XKR S and X Type and 2011 Jag 0 to 60 stats!
shows the 2007 XK doing 0-60 in 5.6
But if your criteria is launch speed for the lowest buck, there are a ton of better choices than a Jaguar.

I was researching for my next Jag and was most surprised by the near-identical performance specs of the XK8 and 07 XK -- both have same engine but the newer car is supposed to be a lot lighter on the feet. My data are from Edmunds.com
I have owned various Jags (XJ6, XK8, XJ8L) since my early 20's and will probably ****** up a '10 XK at a steep discount when the next XK comes out.
Cheers,
Wolfy

I thought we were sticking to coupes? I use to have an '02 WRX. Hard to put in the same category as a Vette or Stang even if 0-60 is the same. A co-worker bought an '12 STi and I'd say the same thing as the WRX. Great car, but a different kind of car.
For a small fun pure sports car, it's hard to beat a Honda S2000.
