Gregory, what I said is still true.

And regarding keeping the car battery charged for months, that must be without significant engine-off drain. And there's no getting around the fact that regardless of the level of the drain, as time passes that will add up to some amount of ampere-hours, and that will be energy drawn from the maintainer device battery that has to be replaced. I was unaware that (all?, some?) CTEK devices have a 120VAC connection, but if you're going to plug it into the wall socket you lose its most compelling feature, i.e., convenience of not dragging an extension cord around the garage.

Regarding maintenance charging control, the better traditional 120VAC chargers probably are least as good as the CTEK/CTEK-like devices.

BTW, in addition to my 120VAC charger/maintainer I did buy a Rugged Geek Jump Starter device when I got my '13 XK. I did this because I was advised by other owners that the XK tends to have higher engine-off drain than most cars, especially if one doesn't give it an "extra lock click," supposedly turning off more on-board electrical stuff.

What for $229. Half that amount gets me a maintainer/ charger that also tests the alternator / battery and provides engine-start with a supercapacitor.

 

One thing about the CTEK, its the most convenient one of them all.
On all the others, not only are you dragging the extension cord, you are also having to drag the charger and push buttons.
The cteck can be mounted under the car as example and simply by plugging in the extension cord it remembers what setting you last used and does its thing.

 

The XJ-S battery was on the right, and since I park on the right side of the garage I put a small shelf for the charger on the adjacent wall and installed a 120VAC receptacle near it. Well, the XJ-S is now gone and the XK battery is on the left making it a little harder. Thought about fitting a longer set of output cables but afraid that might mess up the charger voltage and/or current sensing circuit. I remember a charger I used for years required a short battery cable between the the battery negative post and the charger negative cable.

I moved my Jag from the left side of the garage to the right side, and kept my non-CTEK maintainer (Battery Tender) on the shelf on the left side. Got a couple of those 12 foot output extension cables and plugged them back-to-back to give me a 24 foot extension that I ran up the wall, across the ceiling, and back down the other side, to plug into the cord inside the trunk. Works great.
One especially cold winter, I ran another set of extensions out to a car (not the Jag) parked in the driveway, and used alligator clips to the battery, and left it on overnight, so I'd have a easier starting car in the morning.

 

I have the C-Tek operating on the cord that came with it plus a C-Tek convenience cord. The XKR is plugged into the C-Tek when not in use andit takes no more than 15 seconds to plug or plug it. No big deal and no electrical problems.

Yes married. Her car sits in the driveway. I swapped the positions of my two cars.
The left side has more stuff I need to get to, so less likely to scratch the kitty.
