New battery installation
Unless you maintain 12 volts through the system when the battery is removed, the monitors are reset and must relearn.
Make sure the terminal leads are clean and that the new battery is fully charged. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's fully charged as it may be stored for some time prior to you buying it. Best to place the new battery on an overnight charge at 2 to 5 amps prior to installing it in the vehicle.

the only thing I could add would be general safety procedure:
as with any negative ground system, always install the positive cable first, then the negative cable.
For battery removal, take off the negative cable first, then the positive cable.
Keep the first cable tucked away from the battery, so it can't spring back and try to make contact. My '02 XKR is particularly bad about doing this.
