Default XKR Brake Caliper Cover Logo

Hi All, Pulled the rear wheels this weekend to check on a bad ABS sensor. Found that I also needed sway bar end links. While I wait for them to ship, I pulled the brake caliper covers off and noticed the R has disappeared. I searched a few threads and some replacement covers, decals and even some repurposed key chain logos have been used. I ordered a few decals, but while they are on their way I decided to create a few 3D designs of the plate and logo. I am printing a prototype (in PLA), but the file created is suitable for metal printing, laser cutting/etching and the like. Just wanted to get some feedback from the forum and for any other ideas. I am not stuck on just the R logo, pretty much anything (script, images, etc can be used). Let me know what you think.

Original

3D rendering (red stripe to be added)

I hope you don't plan to use it (the PLA printed one) on your calipers. Might be a little to hot for that?

No, PLA melts at about 190 C and is just for prototype, to make sure all the dimensions are correct. There are certainly plenty of options for heat tolerant materials. Was thinking a laser cut piece of metal and laser etched logo for this application, but am open to ideas. Also, ideas on what logo would look cool there, Jaguar script, Leaper, etc.

What kind of WHEELS do you have? Can you even see the logos? You stated yourself that you didn't notice the defect until the wheel was off.

Some wheels have gaping holes, other nearly obscure everything inside.

CJ, I have Senta wheels. Plenty of space to see. I noticed that there was supposed to be an R there, not noticed that there is a cover. Looking close I can see the R is there, just faint in the same color as backing. In any event, was looking for thoughts on what materials and designs others might have. I will likely affix new decals and treat with some type of clear. Thought it would be interesting to explore some alternatives as well. Feel free to send along any constructive ideas.

First prototype had some hole size and alignment issues. Making adjustments and new prototype. Was able to render leaper and just playing around with ideas...

Not gonna get too picky, but brake caliper cover decals came in and I applied one to see how it looks.

Before

After

Was thinking of a coat of high heat caliper paint to protect.

What do you think?

Also, still open for ideas. Send them along and I will render.

I'd prefer just the Jaguar script instead of a leaper or an R

OK, so here's what I think. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. Quality vinyl brake caliper logos are inexpensive and available in a variety of sizes and colors here:

I bought the small size to replicate the XKR-S look.

I'd be interested in some if you can still make them. Looked everywhere for the plates and can't find any.

I used my originals, added decal and covered with high heat clear brake paint. It came out pretty good.
I 3D printed a few to get measurement right and test fit some blanks. While 3D printing metal is possible, it is a bit more challenging. The more I think of it, laser cutting these and etching a logo or other on stainless steel may be a better solution. I should have laser up in running shortly. I originally purchased to personalize golf ***** (among other things). I will post a sample when I get it cut/etched.
