XKR Dynamic
I will be taking ownership of a new-to-me 2015 XKR 5.0 this weekend. I’ve asked my friend that is selling me the car, if it has the “dynamic” option. He didn’t know….. Which wouldn’t surprise me. He’s not much of a car guy. From what I’ve seen online, it appears there is a button with a checkered flag on it in the console, that enables Dynamic mode. If it has the button, does that mean it has that mode?

Back to what is in “dynamic mode”. A.K.A. pressing the magic racing flag button:
- stiffens suspension
- prevents exhaust bypass from closing, at any speed, so it remains open
- changes throttle response, such that it is at full open at 75% depressed on the pedal
- raises shift points
- and just discovered…disables speed control
Oh yeah, and since it sounds so good, causes the right foot to press harder on the gas pedal, and consequently MPG goes down.

??? Automatic Speed Limiter? I used that once to see what it did, never again since.
Oh yeah..,did I mention how awesome the exhaust sounds in Dynamic Mode, even with stock exhaust, when you press the gas/petrol pedal? You tube videos don’t do it Justice. With the top down, it sounds like a NASCAR car. Especially if I go by side barriers and it echoes off them. I think it actually sounds better than my Harley,

There's a flag symbol in the message centre, and a brief confirmation message.
Sometimes I like to be able to drive the car in "S" and still have the transmission change up eventually.
Sometimes I like to burble gently along in "D", enjoying compliant suspension.
To follow up on my slightly facetious remark above; I've learned that the XKR is a versatile machine. Yes, it can be a bit of a road rocket. But sometimes, when the top's down, the windows are open, the sun is dappling through the trees overhead and your elbow is hanging out over the door you want a bit more of the 'XK' and a bit less of the 'R'. Dynamic Off/On and transmission D/S provide a total of 4 distinct characters to the car. I've found there's a time and place for each of them. (And then there's driving it in manual - another experience.)
