Default XKR going in for work....

Taking the XKR in for some work after the 4300 mile trip to vegas and 14,000 miles in the last year (24,500 total now).

The front wrap is great..its taken alot of beatings and I want it replaced. Also having the wheels re-black glossed to get rid of road rash from previous owner. Leather care (a 2 day process). And the whole car is getting polished and then coated with Kamikaze Glass Coating by Esoteric Detail (Todd Cooperrider).

After that I am thinking about a few things:
1- Tint on the windows.
2- Lowering Springs
3- Aftermarket Exhaust - ? milltek, spires, quicksilver. Not sure which one to purchase.
4- replacing some scratched windows from previous owner damage
5- Possible Tune... POSSIBLY

$$$$!!!!!

After this treatment she will no longer be a beater!!

Very nice, though I've never thought of an XKR as a beater, daily driver definitely.

Where do you take the rims to?

I know my 20" senta's look like they were used as curb feelers. Would love to get that done over the winter.

Take some pics and post when its done.

My detailer said I can keep the car at his shop for the week long process. A company called "wheel medic" in columbus, oh will be working on them. 150/wheel to have them stripped and redone with gloss black covering. I have the Kalimnos Black Gloss right now.

I have Coventry Whitleys with gloss black I use for winter and kind of like it with the silver and black wheels, black top.

Thanks for the info I'll have to give them a call about the senta's.

I would highly advise you to find a powder coater. Should cost $100 per wheel. Powder coating will last significantly longer than a repaint. Don't know anyone in C-bus but I may be able to help you in Dayton.

If done correctly, like glass, high gloss as good as or better than the original factory finish. Unlike paint, powder coating is a baked on finish that has no drying or curing time. As soon as they come out of the oven, they are done, ready to be handled and installed. It is also virtually indestructible , doesn't wear or scratch and is chemical resistant.

Loth,

Since you are working with the top tier of the detailing food chain with Todd at Esoteric, would he not be a valuable resource as to what to do with the wheels?
Methinks he would have some thoughts.

Best regards,

He recommended wheel medic. Will keep the car at his facility while the wheels get fixed. He is a top notch dude!! That facility ONLY does the very best work!!!!

Lothar,
I second the powder coating choice. My painted gloss black Kalimnos seem to pick up new chips every hour from just everyday driving. Powder coated wheels seem much more resistant. Just my two cents.

Default Powder Coating Rocks!

I had parts of my NSX wheels powder coated years ago and they still look like the day they were first done. Powder coating is a magnetically-charged power which 'clings' to whatever it's sprayed onto - because the item it's sprayed onto has been given the opposite magnetic charge. That insures 100% coverage. Then the powder coated item is baked in an oven until the powder coating gets hot enough to melt at which time it becomes a rock-hard ceramic-like finish. It can be done in any color and is often done in a high-gloss finish. Once it's done, it won't crack, peel, chip, fade or scratch. It is 100 times better then paint!
