XKRS Recommended Maintenance from Service Department O_O
Hello all!
So thanks again for the help from my previous post of buying my 2013 XKRS. I have finally completed a secondary CPO inspection and if I do everything... $5,000. I have attached a copy of the report . Does anyone have an inputs, suggests on the criticality of it? I have some of the small things like oil, brake fluid, filters and rear diff that I think I can do myself. Should i get the work done at a jaguar dealership or find a local mechanic? It is a 2013 XKRS with 40,000 miles on it VIN SAJWA4HAXDMB49613
Also, $1k for torn boots? Get some of those ziptie covers and you're GTG.
Brake Assist Vacuum pump leaking oil??? Huh. Dunno why vacuum would have oil. Maybe check the PCV valve, and consider getting an Oil Catch Can or two.
Where are the ancillary belt cracks? On the ribs or on the belt itself? On ribs is normal. Cracks on belt may be of concern if too many or too big.
Pollen filter, $20 and two minutes.
Engine air filters, knock out the dirt and blow them off, for free. (unless hosed, then get new)
Active Exhaust Pump Noise????? DISABLE THAT ****! Pull Fuse 19!!! Besides, if it makes "noise" when off-idle, that's what it is SUPPOSED to do... open and close and such.
There ya go.
Yeah I figured most of these services was the dealer trying to pump up the total cost. All the recommended "yellow" items I could do myself. It's just the red "critical" services that has me concerned. Not sure how bad these toe links are
I have a 5L s/c XJ, so I’m sure there are some minor differences in our setup. Most of these recommendations seem okay except they are too expensive.
The brake booster vacuum pump leaking oil is a common problem and if the leak is significant it could be a problem (running engine with low oil). I would replace the seal but look for a shop to do it for cheaper. The o-ring seal is very cheap. The labor is not that simple IIRC.
I would get a multi-year alignment from a tire shop and replace items affecting either your alignment or your ride quality. If your ride quality and alignment are fine, leave it alone.
The filters you can check and replace yourself. Brake fluid, oil and differential fluid is reasonable to do yourself too. Check your own belts and see if the recommendation makes sense.
I would bring the oil leak to the attention of Jaguar of Tampa and I would probably also alert them of some of the other issues. The torn boots are going to happen, even on new one, the concern would be if there is any play in the links themselves. Either way the parts are very inexpensive, under $100 and you could do them yourself. As for the standard maintenance items I would get them done, either yourself or a worthy service facility (nothing magical here any competent tech can do them)
Fluids and filters would be my priority. As well as a prudent choice to catch up on anything which may have been missed, this will give you a clear baseline for future servicing requirements.
The costs are "interesting". We have Fixed Price Servicing at Jaguar Dealers in the UK. As an example, a brake fluid change is 65 UKP (84 USD) against your quoted 141 USD.
Yes... as my esteemed colleagues have suggested; get most done now, and then some. except the active exhaust vacuum pump. just disable that pump.
Clearly the car was not sufficiently maintained.
I will leave the costs of these services to you. Some of this seems excessive.
