Default ZF 6hp26 service - Video

ZF asks you to service the transmission at 60,000 miles.

Here is a video on how to do it, I used millers oils but you can just use anything that meets the spec for the 6hp26.

Great video. But by the time I build a garage, buy a lift, tools, catch pan, etc., I would've been better off just going to the shop!!

I'm at 61,000 miles now and haven't done the service. I'll probably wait another year at least. But by then I'll still be well under 70,000 miles so hopefully I won't have done too much damage.

Notice as the oil was coming out he was saying how clean it and golden it looked then he must of had a "oops I'm killing my business" moment and then breaks out the water bottle with dirty oil. Even the magnets didn't have barely any metal shavings.

I'm sure you'll be fine til 70k.

8 years.

Your dealership will do the job I just did. Don't let them use a machine though.

I'm not a business. I'm a diyer....I just own my own ramp which I put in our warehouse

I think you should keep quiet, trying to be smart doesn't work for you

( Pssst, it was the transmission oil )

All you achieve is by annoying me when I have taken the time to get the camera recorder, record the process, explain it, then come home and edit it for everyone. It just screams to me don't bother doing anymore in the future as I do all my own DIY work which would have ended up being a good few videos of various things. For instance the next video was going to be the front bumper removal to check out a pedestrian light and another video on changing the belt

Likely to bother filming? Probably not.

Moar,

Don't despair. Almost any technical post/thread will draw the usual crowd of nay saying nit pickers with impertinent questions and critical comments. These "magpies" feel compelled to post early and often. Thankfully, we have fewer of these chaps on this forum than other Forums I subscribe to. If you want an education, start a Thread on tires or oil filters. OMG

Well done. Thanks for your effort.

BTW I did a transmission flush on my 05 XJR at 50,000 miles and the resultant improvement was immediate and gratifying. The issue is not the color of the old fluid so much as the condition of the additive package.

Thanks

Saying that I used to have a light bump from 2-3, especially when cold. Over the lat 40 miles this has gone Very smooth shifting on cold now.

Going to do another fluid change on it's own to finalise it.

Touchy touchy, don't worry though apparently Tarheal Cracker is here to defend you.

Honestly didn't know it was your own video, great job but you did start by commenting that the transmission fluid looked good as it was pouring out then later in the vid you show it as poor in the water bottle. Did you not?

Regardless it is a valuable video, reminded me of this one:

Same transmission, same procedure

I guess I'm the magpie. I meant my first post as a tongue in cheek post. But my Droid 4 smartphone wouldn't let me put a semi-colon to make a smiley face because there is some terrible glitch in the programming.

It was definitely the best video I've seen on this transmission procedure. I'm a little afraid to do it because I just know I'll never get all those screws off--I have a knack for stripping everything!

Please don't withhold more videos because of something I said!
