Front disc brakes for xk140
Searching around on the internet I’ve found people both for and against this upgrade. There are several companies offering it and claiming considerable braking benefit. The detractors say the benefit isn’t great and anyway needs servo assistance (which the suppliers deny). Can anyone who has actually done this upgrade advise on their experience? I’d be most grateful.
Most disc brake installations require a servo due to the absence of self-servo action from the leading brake shoes, especially those with twin leading shoe brakes. The XK150, which had disc brakes all round had a servo, so one has to assume it would be needed on an XK140 which has been retro-fitted with discs.
Fraser is absolutely correct. A disc brake upgrade with out a booster is more difficult than a proper shoe set up. Jaguar thought so and issued a (TSB) technical service bulletin to add a booster to the 140---after the 150 was introduced.
I upgraded my xk140 front brakes to discs, very much needed here, as traffic is intensity is always very high.
I added a brake booster, and a brake pressure regulator for the rear brakes, as they will lock up way to fast without.
It already saved me a few times to avoid a collision.

Peter Jan

Bought this kit but can’t see how to pipe it in. Where do you mount it?
Thanks for the pics on the brake line routing. Very helpful. Where did you elect to mount the servo? Do you have a picture of that? My battery tray location on the passenger side conflicting with that location.
Has anyone actually installed this kit on an XK140? Several issues I am running into. Kit does not include everything needed and more importantly I can figure out we’re to bolt the booster to the car. Only option I can come up with is tucking it under the fender but then would have to build some kind of a shield to protect it?
