Default Front disc brakes for xk140

Searching around on the internet I’ve found people both for and against this upgrade. There are several companies offering it and claiming considerable braking benefit. The detractors say the benefit isn’t great and anyway needs servo assistance (which the suppliers deny). Can anyone who has actually done this upgrade advise on their experience? I’d be most grateful.

Most disc brake installations require a servo due to the absence of self-servo action from the leading brake shoes, especially those with twin leading shoe brakes. The XK150, which had disc brakes all round had a servo, so one has to assume it would be needed on an XK140 which has been retro-fitted with discs.

Fraser is absolutely correct. A disc brake upgrade with out a booster is more difficult than a proper shoe set up. Jaguar thought so and issued a (TSB) technical service bulletin to add a booster to the 140---after the 150 was introduced.

I upgraded my xk140 front brakes to discs, very much needed here, as traffic is intensity is always very high.
I added a brake booster, and a brake pressure regulator for the rear brakes, as they will lock up way to fast without.
It already saved me a few times to avoid a collision.

Regards,
Peter Jan

Currently having my recently purchased 140 restored and upgraded with the front discs and servo. Drums weren't that bad, but felt not safe in the So Cal area. Drove another 140 with drums before the purchase and it scared the sh*t out of me!

I went with the Wilwood front disk conversion but now looking to add booster. Peter, what booster did you use?

Bought this kit but can’t see how to pipe it in. Where do you mount it?

Front brakes
But image without pipe routing.
There is a flexible hose from the caliper direct to the stud around the front suspension.

piping

Default Servo mount location?

Thanks for the pics on the brake line routing. Very helpful. Where did you elect to mount the servo? Do you have a picture of that? My battery tray location on the passenger side conflicting with that location.

As my XK140 is a automatic, i installed another brake booster and a XJ6 master cylinder.
The rear brakes are still drums, I added a pressure regulator, to balance the front/rear.

Default Help with booster install on XK140

Has anyone actually installed this kit on an XK140? Several issues I am running into. Kit does not include everything needed and more importantly I can figure out we’re to bolt the booster to the car. Only option I can come up with is tucking it under the fender but then would have to build some kind of a shield to protect it?

Surely it should go where XK150s have it installed, i.e somewhere on the chassis forward of the firewall ?
