Having recently taken delivery of an XK140, very nicely prepared, we thought it would be wise to check up how to change a wheel, before taking any long journey.

A look in the boot reveals the jack, ratchet and wheel brace which is correct according to info seen on Guy Broad site,

But a look under the car does not reveal any points for inserting the jack.

Am I missing something? Can anyone advise please?

I've no direct experience of ever jacking up an XK140 but this advertisement for a cover plate for the "jacking hole in the floor" could help you to look in the right place:

I'd expected some kind of tube welded to the inner sill for the jack to slot into from the side but the cover plate suggests the jack must locate further inboard from inside the vehicle.

If the 140 is like the 120 (which I suspect it is), you lift up the carpeting, remove that cover plate (illustrated in Graham's post), and you'll find a tube in the frame which the jack is inserted into. Lower the jack through the hole, slide the jack arm into that hole in the frame, and then the ratchet turns the jack foot down until it hits the ground and then lifts the whole side of the car. Not difficult at all.

In case it's not obvious, the central "bar" in that cover plate flexes to pull tabs back which hold the cover in place.

Easy really when you know the answer. And I would likely have known if I had looked in the owners handbook which is in the driver's door pocket all the time!!

at times it may be that one will want to jack with a floor or bottle jack or similar.
Jack only on the frame, at the places that are reinforced (you will see gussets etc..and ALWAY use a block of wood tween jack top and frame. The frame metal is actually quite thin and is easily dented/damaged by the bare jack.
