Default What is this - 57 Jaguar

My girlfriend has had a 57 Jaguar covered in her garage for many years. Last week we pulled it out for the first time. (She tells me it was driven 15 years ago, before me) She doesn't know what she has and in checking the internet I can verify the XK140 but I don't know what to look for to tell if it is a Coupe or Roadster, also is it a "Drop Head" or "Fixed Head". It is a convertible. Can someone help me close in on what this is?

It's a drophead coupe. (DHC-drophead coupe)

The coupe is a fixed roof car. (FHC-fixed head coupe)

The roadster has a much less elaborate soft top. (sometimes called OTS-open two-seater)

Others will chime in

Cheers

It is an XK140 DHC. Worth a very large amount of money in the UK in that condition.

Default What do you think it is worth?

I think she has all of the pieces. Those you might see as missing are in the trunk or the floor of the car.

Over here, XK140 prices seem to have peaked and have turned down a bit. Nevertheless, Hagerty still values a #2 1957 XK140 DHC at $96K and the MC variant at $111K. However, barn-finds (or garage-finds in this case) can go for really silly money, especially if they are unusually original examples. This looks like a really nice XK140 DHC!

i didn't read past the first post. Your car is a Drop Head Coupe aka DHC. So you have an XK 140 DHC....vs. a Roadster...that has drop in side curtains made with eisen (sp ) glass plastic) side windows and a small plaque ( or used to be) on the passenger side of the steel dash that had the top speed when tested as new and the test drivers signature on it (the plaque) to prove the car, that car, had done the guaranteed 140 mph. The XK120 roadster had a similar plaque (only the roadsters) proving a 120 mph testing. Then there is the FHC....or Fixed Head Coupe...as in 'hard top' car and like the DHC had rollup windows and did not come with a/the 140 mph guarantee as did the roadsters.

What I was unaware of as a 19~ 23 year old and was later to find out was how nice the DHC was with a horse hair padded and moe hare head liner when even expensive modern cars did not duplicate the quality of my 57 XK140 DHC.

Thanks or sharing.

First 140 DHC

Re the engine: is it totally silver-colored or is part of it red? The red would designate MC, the larger engine, 210 HP.

Jaguar, girlfriend or both must have moved on.
