Xk120 stuck telescope for steering

Xk120 stuck telescope for steering
I m new to forum. Have a lovely xk120 coupe. The wheel will not telescope more than 3/8” in or out. The plastic nut will loosen both directions but the shaft/ telescope will not move. Any suggestions. I hate to force anything on this car
I have a 150 doc the mechanism for that is quite differ3nt and works well. Thanks for your suggestions.
