Hi,

I have a 2006 XKR with the classic ABS light on with Dynamic Stability Control failure message in the message center. The lights came on this time after bottoming out the suspension on a crappy driveway-street intersection.

I've cleaned the wheel speed sensors a couple of times using the Rev's instructions, it has worked in the past but not this time.

I am now at the next point of investigation, checking that there's a good sensor signal at the ABS/DSC module plug. It appears however that they changed the plug for the 2005-2006 model years - mine looks nothing like the one in GusGlikas's instructions.

I went and installed JTIS 21 but found that it only covers up to the 2004 Model Year.

Has anyone run into this before with a 2005-2006 XK8 or XKR? Does anyone have a map of the plug? Are the colors in the wire loom the same as they were before 2004?

When you cleaned the wheel sensors did you check the wiring? A known problem is bad wire(s) going to the sensors at the wheel. Might be worth a look.

 

I've done the cleaning enough times that I can take the front sensors off with the car on the ground and the rears without taking the wheel off...

I could go the visual inspection route, although it wouldn't be obvious if there were an internal break in one of the wires, and I might not catch it with an ohmmeter if it's intermittent and the wire is in a different position from normal driving position.

I'll have the wheels and rotors off in a couple of weeks to replace the rotors so I'll be able to get a good look then.

 

OK, I think I have found the picture and pinout for the plug... In one of the XK manuals it says that the braking system in the 2005-2006 XK8/XKR is the same as the modification they made to the 2003 S-Type. The S-Type Workshop manual (2002.5 MY on) appears to have what I need - downloadable from http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...M-Workshop.pdf

The connector name is FH103, so if you search on that you should find it. They have a lot of tests. They appear to have a different method than Gus's method of measuring the resistance of the sensor in-circuit from the plug, the "official" diagnostic method is to unplug the sensor and look for opens and shorts with an ohmmeter, and then replace the sensor if none are found...

I will update with what I find out.

So some more digging... Apparently they changed the wheel speed sensors from our cousins with model years up to 2003. Not only do mine have a different appearance (they don't have the three metallic bars on them - they are totally encased in ABS), they also operate differently - they have very high resistance all the time - so checking for shorts/opens from the harness ain't gonna work...

And now for a new problem - it does appear to be a wiring problem, as I was inspecting one of them and the wire came disconnected from the connector as I did that. Be careful!

Now I need to find a new wire model number LJG3410AC for less than $100. It's a wire!!

 

So here I am 5 years later with same problem. Glad I left the bread crumbs.

 

The ABS plug on the 05-06 is fancy. If you lift the cover it disengages two slides that allow it to uncouple. If its old then those will shear off when you lift the cover and you need to disengage them manually... also make sure theyre disengaged when rrassembling and then snapbthe cover down to engage them

 

FWIW, Rockauto has some ABS sensor plugs. Looking at the pictures, there seem to be the sensor-side plug (with wires) and a separate harness-side (with wires). Should be enough to make something work...
