Default Reconditioning

That appears to be a leather reconditioning or refinishing job that was done very well, rather than new leather.

It looks good!

we removed the seats from the car.clean and condition the leather..mask and spray paint them with special flexable colour matched dye..several coats applied till we are happy...no leather additions..as we dont offer that sevice..I know the colour on one of the pictures dosnt look correct but its the photo ..100% colour match..
thanks for the good words from all

How did you achieve the matt finish? When I did my driver's seat bolster it came out too shiney.

Default Frog

Prior to spraying/applying the liquid material, you can add flattening paste (finer paint supply shops have it) or amorphous fumed silica (typically in powder form and used to thicken soups and resins). Flattening paste is typically made from potato starch.

For dulling a finish after the fact, consider intentionally scuffing with a very fine abrasive pad (lightly). Do a test prior to doing the whole thing. Sometimes, even 'buffing' the glossy area with a shop cloth will knock down the gloss.

You can also try a light scrub with a moist cloth and baking soda. Toothpaste may work, also, but needs to be the standard gritty kind, not gel. Toothpaste works to shine up hard coatings, but may slightly dull a shiny soft surface.

Test first!

I chose the matt finish as i think it looked best..but i can add gloss to the paint and get a shinny finish..wish now i had put a bit in.. if the sun shines one day soon i might take seats out and give it a top coat of gloss..as you know only takes 5 mins to remove seats..we also sell the dye..it come with darkner and lightener add ons plus gloss to ad if required
cheers

Great job!

I want to hire someone to do that for me -- had it done on an old car in the mid-nineties and still have the car, but it needs to be done again after only 40k miles or so.

Now I'd like to have it done on my XJ8 driver's seat and steering wheel. Any takers?

Dennis--Think you mentioned you sell the product--do you sell the complete kit with cleaners and dye?? I also have ivory seats in my 2001 XKR converible--the back seats as you can imagine have not been used but the front setas are showing wear of the dye. would I have to do the complete interior for color match or just the front seats.

Default durability / longevity

Dennis, nice job!! Seat looks fantastic. What is your estimate on how long this will last? It is more succeptible to damage - chipping, scuffing, peeling etc... than the original finish on the leather or is it basically the same process that the leather goes through when it is originally colored and buffed etc...from the leather product provider when the car seats where originally finished?

How long it will last is dependant on how much you use the car, jean rivits and buttons are the worst things for seats..some of the jobs we have done still look good after 2..3 years of use.will never be as good as original leather.my son did his old bmw and its was still good after 5 years when he sold it..can you send a picture of your drivers seat and may be able to give a better answer..
cheers Dennis
