Question Key Fobs not working

X TYPE. XK. XJ6. Think I could find them for S Type as well.
Hoping you can help - I have just bought a 1999 XK8 (UK) and neither of the keyfobs work at all. Have replaced the batteries and found some instructions (suspect US) for reprogramming them but they still don't work. Would appreciate copy of UK istructions if you still have them.

Having to use key to lock doors and have to get key in ignition quickly when I open or alarm goes off. Trying to avoid taking to dealer if I can help it.

Also can anyone recommend a good UK workshop manual fo the car? Checked Amazon but the Haynes manual looked more like an appreciation book rather than the usual blow by blow workshop manual

Cheers

Conan,

I've moved your question from the X-Type section to the XK8/XKR section. Keyfobs are different on your XK8.

Have the same issue.
I ordered the fobs off ebay but didnt make sure the numbers and codes were exact matches as my original one. There are several different fobs that look identical except for the numbers. All the numbers on the back of fob MUST be a match. I bet yours may be different.
Once I got the correct part numbered fob, it paired up perfectly.

The official workshop manual is on CD, and you can down load it free. It is called JTIS and the details are in the beginning of this post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/

Try reprogramming both fobs before assuming they are either incompatible or faulty.

1. Insert ignition key into the ignition switch barrel, but do not turn it.
2. Hold the turn signal switch stalk in the "flash to pass" position and turn the ignition on with the key (while holding the turn signal switch in "flash to pass").
3. Then repeatedly flash the lights with the turn signal stalk until a confirmation chirp is heard (usually five or six flashes).
4. After hearing the chirp, depress the button on the remote transmitter being programmed. If the remote was accepted, there will be another confirmation chirp.
5. this button press procedure has to be repeated 5 times - if you have 2 remotes, programme the 2nd remote 4 times, to make a total of 5 programming procedures.
6. Turn off the ignition and test the remote(s).

When I did this for my '99 XKR, I followed the steps in the previous post. However, the module didn't chirp; instead, a light flashed a few times on the J-gate surround.

Another oddity is that some folks (me included) had to have the driver's door open when reprogramming the key fobs. This may (or may not) affect you...

Good luck and good choice of car!

Best wishes, Colin

Will keep trying all the combinations, but so far nothing. Is that turn the ignition on ie engine running, or just to position 1 ir 11?

I found the valet switch on the dashboard and tried that instruction but unfortunately the valet button has a tendency to stick which makes pushing it 5 times in 5 seconds near impossible - but I shall percivere

Thanks for all the suggestions - keep them coming

Cheers

Step 2 is the with the Ignition ON (position II) and not with the engine running.
