OK, don't be lining up at the door!

I just had a project thought and that can be dangerous. I was looking for a stiff, but flexible piece of vinyl for my project. Couldn't find it anywhere until I was walking through Target and saw those plastic vinyl storage boxes. That's the material I was looking for and they are cheap. Bought a long shallow one to get enough length for my project. I used the lid and saved the box part to use for more junk. OK, I now have the stiff, but flexible vinyl. Now for the project.


I never like the way the opened top boot cover looked on the sides tucked into the body. They always were dimpled and irregular. My thought was to stiffen up that small panel to make it look neater. So here goes:

I laid the top boot cover on the table (yes Rev, I work on my dining room table too, but I at least put some cardboard on it) and used some of the Press and Seal wrap to mark a pattern for a template.


I then used the wrap to cut out a cardboard pattern.


Using the cardboard pattern,


I outlined the the pattern on the vinyl lid .



I then cut out the pieces with tin snips.


I then taped around the underside of the boot cover so the glue (3M Super 77 spray) would only go where it is supposed to go.


I sprayed the boot cover and the vinyl piece and stuck them together.


I am very pleased with the outcome.

Its kind of like a wonderbra for your boot cover! I like it.

 

I'll be doing this, but how do you get the corner of the cover, right at the trunk corner, down so neat, on mine the top prevents the cover right at the seem/corner from being down in there it always sticks up slightly on both sides

It just works for me. Sounds like your top is not going all the way down and holding the cover up too high.

What material exactly where? Well, I will go looking at Target.
